Fed Bans Ex-Goldman Bankers Leissner, Ng From Ever Working In The Industry

While Goldman has mostly recovered from the 1MBD corruption scandal which sent its stock price crashing late last year, its former bankers have yet to face the music, and earlier today former Goldman bankers in charge of the bank's Malaysia relationship, Tim Leissner and Roger Ng, were banned from the banking industry by the Federal Reserve for their role in helping divert billions of dollars from Malaysia’s den of thieves, also known as the country's sovereign wealth fund, 1 MDB.

Leissner and Ng arranged bond offerings that allowed funds to be diverted from 1MDB, the Fed said in a Tuesday statement, with some of the money used to bribe government officials in Malaysia and Abu Dhabi, while criminals also used proceeds to pay for lavish lifestyles, the regulator claimed.

Leissner, who agreed to the Fed’s permanent ban, was fined $1.42 million, according to the statement. Playing the scapegoat role to a T, Leissner had already pleaded guilty to charges brought by the U.S. Justice Department, including conspiring to launder money. In October, Leissner’s deputy at Goldman Sachs, Roger Ng was indicted on similar charges. As we reported last month, Malaysia said it will extradite Ng to the U.S. after he has completed legal proceedings in local courts.

As Bloomberg previously reported, the Fed had ramped up its investigation into how Goldman Sachs bankers dodged the firm’s internal controls to raise billions for 1MDB that later went missing, while apparently avoiding a scandal that shook the banking industry several years ago when the NY Fed was secretly leaking regulatory information to, who else, Goldman Sachs.

The Fed accused Leissner of participating in a scheme with Malaysian businessman Low Taek Jho and others to divert money from “several” 1MDB transactions, including three bond offerings underwritten by Goldman Sachs in 2012 and 2013, according to an order dated March 11. Low, a controversial financier, has been accused of embezzling hundreds of millions of dollars from the Malaysian fund and using some of it to buy gifts for famous models and film actors.

Leissner in August pleaded guilty to U.S. charges that he conspired to launder money and violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. As part of the charges, he agreed to forfeit $43.7 million and admitted to bribing officials in Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates to get bond deals for Goldman Sachs.

Leissner said he and others arranged the 1MDB fundraising as debt offerings because it would generate higher fees for the bank. He has said his behavior was in line with the “culture of Goldman Sachs to conceal facts from certain compliance and legal employees."

So far former Goldman CEO Lloyd Blankfein, who quit as Goldman CEO just as the scandal was ramping up, has not been indicted.

Cheney blindsided Pence with his “concerns” during a private American Enterprise Institute retreat at Sea Island, Georgia, attended by about 150 Republican movers and shakers – as fitting a locale as any to be lambasted by one of the era’s great supervillains. While discussion participants had agreed to keep their words “off the record,” some thoughtful attendee leaked a transcript to the Washington Post.

The hawk’s hawk lamented that Trump “supposedly doesn’t spend that much time with the intel people, or doesn’t agree with them, frequently” – since it’s hard to lie someone into a war with phony intel if you can’t sit them down for a briefing in the first place. He claimed to worry that the president’s “foreign policy boils down to a crude dollars and cents transaction” – a no-doubt heartfelt criticism coming from the man Sen. Rand Paul accused of starting the Iraq war in order to shore up the fortunes of Halliburton, the energy company where he’d long served as CEO. Halliburton not only received a $1 billion no-bid contract in the early days of post-“Mission Accomplished” Iraq, which mushroomed into $39.5 billion over 10 years, but reportedly skimmed so much profit off the top that the resulting low-quality construction actually endangered soldiers’ lives.

Scientists say Apple AirPods and other wireless headphones may be linked to cancer

Apple sold more than 28 million pairs last year

Apple's wireless AirPods may cause cancer, according to hundreds of scientists from all over the world.

More than 250 scientists have signed a petition urging the United Nations and World Health Organization to develop stronger guidelines regarding the potential cancer risk and other health effects caused by non-ionizing electromagnetic fields, or EMFs.

Last year, Apple sold more than 28 million pairs of AirPods and more than 16 million the year prior, according to the Daily Mail. The popular AirPods connect wirelessly to a user's phone or computer via Bluetooth technology. Bluetooth technology uses low-power radio waves.

The petition warns against all types of radio frequency radiation, including WiFi, cellular data, and Bluetooth devices.

What's the story?

Some animal studies have suggested there is a link between radio frequency radiation and cancer.

"Numerous recent scientific publications have shown that EMF affects living organisms at levels well below most international and national guidelines," according to the petition.

Some experts believe that AirPods may be especially dangerous since the devices sit deep inside the ear canal where they emit radiation to fragile parts of the ear.

The scientists also noted other possible health hazards, including an increase in harmful free radicals, genetic damages, structural and functional changes of the reproductive system, learning and memory deficits, and neurological disorders.

Do other researchers disagree?

Some researchers disagree with the authors of the petition.

Bluetooth technology communicates to a cellular device that's usually not more than a few feet away, which means that,"it's transmitting at quite a low power level," University of Pennsylvania bioengineering professor Kenneth Foster told the Los Angeles Times in a 2016 interview about wireless headphones.

A person's exposure to EMF radiation is "absolutely minimal – smaller by a huge amount that the exposure of putting a phone to your ear," Foster said.

One of the greatest risks may be hearing loss from listening to music too loudly on your headphones, but many experts agree that the technology doesn't increase one's risk of developing cancer, according to the report.

What else?

In 2002 and 2011, the International Agency for Research on Cancer classified EMF and ELF (extremely low frequency) fields as possibly carcinogenic.

The scientists are calling for greater oversight and additional warnings for all types of technology that emit radio waves.

"The various agencies setting safety standards have failed to impose sufficient guidelines to protect the general public, particularly children who are more vulnerable to the effects of EMF," the petition said. "By not taking action, the WHO is failing to fulfill its role as the preeminent international public health agency."

Feds to Unseal Epstein Documents Revealing Scope of Billionaire’s Int’l Child Sex Trafficking Ring

n a bombshell ruling, a Federal Court has moved to unseal documents in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal that may reveal evidence of an international child sex trafficking operation.

On Monday, a Manhattan appeals court gave billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein’s former alleged partner in crime, British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, until March 19 to establish good cause as to why documents detailing the scope and size of their international child sex trafficking operation should remain sealed. Failing to do so would mean these documents will be made public.

“We’re grateful that the court ruled the summary judgment papers are open and they are moving to expedite having them unsealed,’’ said Sanford Bohrer, the attorney representing the Miami Herald. “This is very unusual for a court to do this.”

The Herald reports that the appeal is supported by 32 other media companies, including the New York Times and Washington Post.

According the court, after the case was quietly settled in 2017, and the victims all effectively silenced, more than 1,000 documents were sealed. Maxwell, who is the daughter of disgraced media mogul and former owner of the NY Daily News, is the sole party attempting to keep the documents sealed.

It is a well reported fact that Maxwell would meet the young girl—who would soon become the first victim of the child sex trafficking ring—at Trump’s famous Mar-a-Lago resort. Maxwell was sued after accusing this victim of being a liar, and she lost.

In the appeals court case in New York, the sealed documents stem from a 2017 civil case related to when Epstein associate Maxwell was sued for slander for calling Virginia Roberts Giuffre, one of Epstein’s accusers, a liar. Giuffre, then 16, said she was working at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort when she was approached by Maxwell about becoming a masseuse for the hedge fund manager. That soon evolved into a sexual pyramid scheme. Epstein paid local girls $200 to give him massages. He offered the same amount if they’d recruit other girls. The massages would turn into sex. The feds were looking into allegations that girls were trafficked across state lines and even internationally when the investigation was closed.

Giuffree won the case, proved she wasn’t lying, and Maxwell was forced to pay her millions.

Donald Trump Accuses Tech Giants of Colluding with Democrats

President Donald Trump accused companies like Facebook, Twitter, and Google of colluding with Democrats to censor his supporters online to their political advantage.

“Actually it’s incredible that I won the election because you know it was so rigged against me,” he said. “It wasn’t Russians. Russia collusion was a delusion. But what there is, is there was collusion between the Democrats and these tech companies.”

The president spoke about political bias in top Silicon Valley companies in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News on Monday.

The president said that any Republican running in 2020 would face a “tremendous disadvantage” in social media after he surprised tech companies by beating Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election.

“It’s totally steered, which has been proven now, totally steered toward the Democrats and yet I won,” he said.

Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow told the president he would be running against not only the Democrats and the media but also against the big tech companies during his presidential run in 2020.

The president responded by noting Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s presidential campaign proposal to break up the big tech companies.

“Isn’t it funny? Elizabeth Warren called for their total breakup,” he said. “I do smile though, they’re so protective of her.”

He sympathized with critics of the big tech companies like Facebook, Google, and Twitter who wanted to regulate the companies.

“I understand a lot of people wanting to look into it. I mean normally I’d like to say let it be free, let it all be free, but it’s not free,” Trump said. “It’s really run by a small number of people.”

The president also referred to reports from Breitbart News exposing tech bias against conservatives in companies like Twitter, Facebook, and Google.

“Now we’ve seen it, now we’ve caught them. We’ve seen the speeches, we’ve seen the in-house little videos that somehow got released, to me, that’s a very big scandal,” he said.

Pro-Life Victory: Sixth Circuit Court Of Appeals Says Ohio Can Defund Planned Parenthood

On Tuesday, by an 11-6 en banc vote, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit held that Ohio can properly cut state funding to Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider. In 2016, during the midst of his ill-fated presidential campaign, then-Ohio Gov. John Kasich had signed into law a bill that defunded the abortion provider.

The case is Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio v. Hodges.

As Politico notes, four of the 11 judges in the en banc majority are nominees of President Donald Trump:

A majority of the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday that Ohio can cut state funding to Planned Parenthood because the organization performs abortions, overturning a lower court ruling that blocked the state from stripping the network of clinics of the money.

Four of the 11 judges who sided with the state in the decision were appointed by President Donald Trump. The judges said Ohio’s law barring state health department funding from going to any provider who offers “non-therapeutic abortions” or advocates for abortion rights, "does not violate the Constitution because the affiliates do not have a due process right to perform abortions." …

The ruling affects six state public health programs, but doesn't touch Medicaid. The Supreme Court in December declined to review a case brought by other Republican-led states seeking to cut off Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood and other reproductive health organizations that offer abortions.

The majority opinion, written by Judge Jeffrey Sutton, makes clear that "The Supreme Court has never identified a freestanding right to perform abortions." Instead, Sutton cites the 1992 Supreme Court case of Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey, which upheld the abortion "right" initially fabricated in 1973's Roe v. Wade, for the proposition that any abortion "right" is necessarily "derivative of the woman's [underlying] position."

Doug Collins Releases Ex-FBI Lawyer Lisa Page’s Interview Transcripts

Georgia Rep. Doug Collins released 370 pages of transcripts Tuesday of congressional testimony given by Lisa Page in 2018.

Page is the former FBI attorney who exchanged anti-Trump text messages with former FBI counterintelligence official Peter Strzok.

Collins, the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, published links to the transcripts on his congressional website after reading a link to the documents into the public record during a speech on the House floor. Page testified over the course of two days, July 13, 2018 and July 16, 2018.

Collins published a transcript Friday of testimony from Bruce Ohr, the Justice Department official who served as a back channel between the FBI and former British spy Christopher Steele during the bureau’s Trump-Russia probe. He pledged Tuesday that more transcripts will be released.

Ohr’s wife, Nellie Ohr, worked as a contractor for Fusion GPS, the opposition research firm hired by Democrats to investigate President Donald Trump.

Page left the FBI on May 4, 2018 amid a brewing scandal over her text messages with Strzok, the former deputy chief of the FBI’s counterintelligence division. Page and Strzok were part of a small group at the FBI that worked on “Crossfire Hurricane,” the code name for the bureau’s counterintelligence probe of the Trump campaign.

The investigation was started on July 31, 2016.

Many of the details of Page’s testimony have been publicized.

She told lawmakers that she was told in May 2017 by her boss, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein brought up the idea of wearing a wire in meetings with Trump.

Page also testified that she had not seen strong evidence of collusion involving the Trump campaign by the time that Robert Mueller was appointed special counsel in 2017. Page and Strzok both worked on Mueller’s team. Strzok was removed from the investigation in late-July 2017 after the discovery of his text messages with Page.

Even Before Parliament Has Voted, EU Prepares to Delay Brexit by Another Year

Europe’s most senior bureaucrat, who is a well-known opponent of Brexit and allegedly wishes the process to go as badly as possible to act as a deterrent to others leaving the bloc, is ready to allow the United Kingdom to delay the official departure day by 12 months or more.

German lawyer Martin Selmayr, who became Secretary General of the European Commission after a controversial and contested appointment in February 2018, is prepared to allow the United Kingdom to draw out its own torture at the hands of the European Union by an extra 12 months or more, according to sources quoted by London’s The Times newspaper.

Lending his voice to a growing number of Eurocrats who appear to believe forcing out the British government and seeing it replaced with a new one may be an easy route to a favourable Brexit outcome, the newspaper notes “senior officials and diplomats” are reported as saying the extension could be made long enough for “UK elections and a new government so that means until the end of the year”.

Selmayr’s comments to these figures also seem to confirm the claims made by Brexiteers like Nigel Farage that the claims by British lawmakers — including the prime minister — that an extension could last just weeks or a couple of months was a “ludicrous suggestion”. Mr Farage said in February that this was a ploy to gently break the idea of cancelling Brexit day to the British public, but in fact during this short extension “there would be no-one to negotiate with during this period” as the main players in Brussels would have already returned to their home nations to campaign for the May 2019 EU elections.

The Times reports Selmayr as making similar remarks, noting that a short extension would be nonsense and that “six weeks won’t fix anything” because of the recess from Brussels.

Lavrov Does Not Rule Out US Sanctions Against EU States If They Reject ‘Aid’ To Counter ‘Russian Influence’

On March 12, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov adressed a recent budget request by US President Donald Trump for $500 million in funds to counter “Russian influence” in other countries.

“I don’t know how much the countries targeted by this initiative would like to be ‘bought’ [by the US]. Considering the manners that now prevail in Washington, I do not exclude that if they [EU states] refuse to accept the aid, they will be sanctioned. So now they have to make a choice”, Lavrov stressed following a meeting with Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl.

The Russina foreign minister also described this move as an attempt to “buy allies”. Regarding the US sanctions threats against the Nord Stream 2 project, Lavrov said that such restrictions would contradict international law.

In own turn, the Ausrian foreign minsiter said that her country believes “in other forms of interaction”:

“I can only say as the Austrian foreign minister that we believe in other forms of interaction — diplomatic visits, negotiations like the one we had today, and exchanges. Such a format [US actions] only contributes to contradictions. I understand diplomacy as communication on par, when you can discuss various issues without fearing to ‘take out hot coal with bare hands’. I think that we should continue diplomacy in its original meaning — [as] constructive and polite dialogue, like the one we had today.”

It should be noted that in the Fiscal Year 2020 budget proposal, President Trump asked for $500 million to counter Russia’s “malign influence” around the world. According to the document, the budget should provide “assistance to Europe, Eurasia, and Central Asia” in order to “advance shared security” and “safeguard the territorial integrity”.

In other words, the Trump adminsitration is going to exploit the ‘Russian threat’ narrative in an attempt to solve the recently grown tensions with its allies in Europe and other regions. An interesting fact is that most of these tensions appeared as a result of own actions of the Trump administration.

=Fresh Satellite Images Reveal Up To 700 Graves, Chaos In US-controlled Rukban Refugee Camp

People stranded in the Rukban refugee camp in the US-controlled refigee camp of Rukban in eastern Syria get less than 5 liters of water per person per day, the Russian and Syrian Joint Coordination Committees for Repatriation of Syrian Refugees said in a statement released by the Russian Defense Ministry on March 12.

The statement pointed out that tihs is barely enough for cooking and drinking, and insufficient for proper personal hygiene.

“Behind the camp’s wall are reservoirs with a volume of 210 cubic meters, into which water brought from Jordan is filled and then distributed among the camp’s residents. Simple calculations show that each resident can receive no more than 5 liters of water per day. That is not only barely enough for cooking and drinking, but also insufficient for washing and doing laundry, which leads to unsanitary conditions,” the statement said.

According to the statement, members of US-backed Maghawir al-Thawra, a militant group that operates in the area, disrupt water deliveries to the camp, criminally using it as a bargaining chip for blackmailing and profiteering purposes.

The statement also recalled that burial sites and garbage dumps that dot the area close to housing locations are worsening the already dire humanitarian situation in the camp.

The Russian and Syrian Joint Coordination Committees also adressed the shortage of food, warm clothing and medication in addition to the poor sanitary and epidemiological situation. According to the statement, refugees suffer from exhaustion, acute intestinal diseases and infections.

Despite this, the US-led coalition and its proxies continue to prevent the evacuation of refugees from the camp.

911 Flooded With Calls About Suicidal Amazon Warehouse Employees

Disgruntled Amazon warehouse employees are being driven to the point of suicide.

Following reports of workers being forced to pee in bottles and managers encouraging employees to lie about workplace injuries, it's no surprise that over a five-year period there have been nearly 200 calls summoning emergency workers to Amazon warehouses for "suicide attempts, suicidal thoughts and other mental-health episodes," reports the Daily Beast's Max Zahn and Sharif Paget - who spoke to current and former employees.

The reports came from 46 warehouses in 17 states—roughly a quarter of the sorting and fulfillment centers that comprise the company’s U.S. network. Jurisdictions for other Amazon warehouses either did not have any

Police close Temple Mount after firebomb attack - will reopen tomorrow

Police officer seriously injured, according to reports.

The police on Tuesday closed the entrances to the Temple Mount after violent clashes with dozens of Palestinians. Officials have said that the religious site will re-open tomorrow.

The clashes erupted shortly before 2 pm after a fire erupted inside a police post on the compound, also known as Haram al-Sharif (Noble Sanctuary). Police said the fire was caused by a firebomb.

A police officer was lightly wounded in the attack, the Jerusalem Police said.

Some Palestinians, however, rejected the police account that the post was torched by a firebomb.

At least two eyewitnesses claimed that the fire was caused by children who were playing with fireworks.

This was not the first attack of its kind against the police post, which Palestinians see as a symbol of Israeli sovereignty over the Temple Mount.

In 1990, Palestinian rioters tried to attack a number of policemen who had barricaded themselves inside the post. The policemen managed to flee the scene and the rioters torched the post and damaged police equipment.

In 2014, Palestinian rioters again torched the post after policemen who were stationed there were ordered by their commanders to leave out of fear for their lives.

After Tuesday’s incident, dozens of policemen were rushed to the Temple Mount, sparking scuffles with Palestinian women and Waqf guards.

Three Palestinians were immediately arrested in connection with the firebomb attack on the police post.

The police closed the entrances to the compound after Palestinian activists and groups began calling on Palestinians to head to Al-Aqsa Mosque to “defend it against the assault by the police and Jewish extremists.”

The police also temporarily closed the Old City’s Damascus Gate and Lion’s Gate. The Palestinian Authority condemned what it termed the dangerous Israeli escalation in Al-Aqsa Mosque and warned that Israel’s actions would have “grave repercussions.”

The PA called on the international community to immediately intervene to “halt Israeli assaults on Al-Aqsa Mosque.” PA President Mahmoud Abbas is holding contacts with relevant parties, specifically Jordan, to pressure Israel to “stop this dangerous escalation,” said a statement issued by Abbas’s office in Ramallah.

Google will ‘de-rank’ RT articles to make them harder to find – Eric Schmidt

Eric Schmidt, the Executive Chairman of Google’s parent company Alphabet, says the company will “engineer” specific algorithms for RT and Sputnik to make their articles less prominent on the search engine’s news delivery services.

“We are working on detecting and de-ranking those kinds of sites – it’s basically RT and Sputnik,” Schmidt said during a Q & A session at the Halifax International Security Forum in Canada on Saturday, when asked about whether Google facilitates “Russian propaganda.”

On election night 2016, Schmidt was spotted at the Clinton campaign headquarters with a “staff” badge, according to a photo submitted to Politico.

An article in State Watch News revealed that the EU has agreed to create a MANDATORY national biometric ID card.

"Measures being negotiated as part of the EU's 'Security Union' are moving ahead swiftly, with the Council and Parliament reaching provisional agreements on new rules for immigration liaison officers, the EU's Visa Code and the introduction of mandatory biometric national identity cards; and the Council agreeing its negotiating position on the new Frontex Regulation."

Earlier this week the Nepal government announced their plans to roll-out a national biometric ID card that will affect 30 million people.

512 million people will be forced to give up their privacy

A European national biometric ID card is all but a certainty.

All the EU needs is for 28 ambassadors to say yes and just like that 512.6 million citizens will be forced to give up their privacy if they want to travel.

"Today, representatives of the Council Presidency and the European Parliament reached an informal agreement on a regulation to improve the functioning of the European network of immigration liaison officers. It will now be presented to EU ambassadors for confirmation on behalf of the Council."

The Brussel Times claims that the member countries would have eight years to comply when the law takes affect.

How will this affect American travelers?

Any American wishing to visit any of the 28 countries that make up the EU will be profiled and given risk assessments by the "European Travel Information and Authorization System or ETIAS"

"Since citizens of countries who do not need a visa for travel purposes in the EU do not need to go through a long process of applying for the visa, ETIAS will make sure that these people are not a security threat. This travel authorization system will gather, keep track of, and update necessary information regarding visitors to determine whether it is safe for them to enter Schengen countries."

If ETIAS sounds a lot like Homeland Security's "U.S Electronic System for Travel Authorization System" and their secret No-Fly list give yourself a gold star, because that is exactly what it is modeled after.

If you and your family plan on visiting a country for an extended period of time, you will have no choice but to submit their biometrics to the EU.

Google agreed to pay two of its top executives $135million in severance packages after they were both accused of sexual misconduct, a new lawsuit has claimed.

Amit Singhal was offered $45million by Alphabet, Google's parent firm, after he was accused of groping a colleague at a 'boozy off-site event' with the company.

Details of the exit package were revealed as part of a shareholder lawsuit against the company, one that followed a published report of payouts Google made to executives accused of sexual misconduct.

Previously redacted portions of the lawsuit were made available Monday, including quotes from Alphabet board committee meetings.

They come just months after thousands of Google employees staged a global walk-out after it was revealed Android creator Andy Rubin received a $90million severance package after a woman accused him of forcing her into oral sex.

However, funds are still moved from one location to the next using the scheme. As one Quora commenter explains:

A client opens up a trading account with Deutsche Bank in Moscow. The client deposits let’s say the equivalent of $10,000 in rubles in his account and asks the bank to buy that amount of blue chip shares on the Moscow stock exchange. The client has previously instructed the bank that the same shares are sold on the London stock exchange for GBP; both trades are executed within fractions of a second of each other. Voila. Clean as a whistle.

Back in 2017, Deutsche Bank paid more than $670 million in penalties for participating in mirror trades that stemmed from illegal activities in Russia. Money laundering scandals have proliferated at Deutsche Bank and the institution has paid more than $9 billion in fines since 2008. Many other well-known financial institutions have been caught assisting mirror trading offenses like Bank of America, J.P. Morgan, and Danske Bank Estonia.

Officer resigns after getting caught using police database to ask 150 women on dates: 'This is truly a disturbing situation'

A Florida police officer on the force for 12 years has resigned after being accused of using the police department’s confidential database as his personal dating service, contacting at least 150 women to ask them out.

Bradenton police chief Melanie Bevan held a press conference last Thursday to discuss the case of Sgt. Leonel Marines, who she says “cast a dark shadow on our law enforcement profession.” The investigation into Marines’s behavior began in June 2018, Bevan said, when the department received a citizen complaint from “an adult female and her parents.”

After a brief encounter in a parking lot with the young woman, Marines began following her in his police cruiser all the way to her parents’ residence, making her uneasy, according to Bevan. He allegedly said he was there regarding a domestic matter and asked to see the woman, but her parents became suspicious of his intentions and refused to let their daughter come to the door despite Marines’s insistence. They then requested the officer’s name and supervisor information, but he left without producing it.
