Pelosi brings pols, donors to Napa

By ANNA PALMER and JOHN BRESNAHAN 08/14/2014 05:24 PM EDT

If it’s August, it’s Napa Valley for Nancy Pelosi.

The California Democrat is, once again, bringing her top donors and other powerful political figures to wine country for a two-day legislative and issues conference at the swanky Villagio Inn and Spa.

High profile draws include Google’s Eric Schmidt, mega donor and environmental activist Tom Steyer and California Gov. Jerry Brown.

The event kicks off Friday with a cocktail and dinner reception at the home of former U.S. Ambassador to Austria Kathryn Hall and her husband Craig Hall, owners of HALL winery. Former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, a one-time House Democratic lawmaker, is the guest speaker for the evening.

The session is not a fundraiser, but invitees are members of the 2014 Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Speaker’s Cabinet, a group that requires a contribution of $32,400 this year to the party committee.

Pelosi is also bringing in a handful of vulnerable Democratic lawmakers to mix and mingle with some of her biggest supporters. Getting picked to attend is considered an opportunity to schmooze with potential mega donors. Reps. Ami Bera (Calif.), Carol Shea-Porter (N.H.), Ann Kirkpatrick (Ariz.), Patrick Murphy (Fla.) and New York candidate Domenic Recchia are all slated to give brief remarks.

On Saturday, the issues conference and political update begins with welcome remarks by Pelosi. DCCC WomenLEAD Co-Chair Lois Frankel (Fla.) and DCCC Chairman Steve Israel (N.Y.) will also speak, along with House Majority PAC executive director Ali Lapp.

Democratic mega donor and environmental activist Tom Steyer, former U.S. Secretary of Labor Robert Reich, and Reps. Chris Van Hollen (Md.) and Richie Neal (Mass.) will also give talks Saturday morning.

That afternoon, guests will attend a lunch and wine pairing at the home of Valeria and Agustin Huneeus at Quintessa Winery. Google’s executive chairman Schmidt is slated to be the luncheon speaker.
