Anons, I'm a Video Game Industry anon, and i want to share with you a scene that had an extremely strong impression on me as a child
This scene takes place after climbing the game's massive demon tower. Dante, the wisecracking wildboy confronts his stern older brother, Vergil, who exudes power and efficiency in every one of his movements.
In the end, Dante loses this fight, and he's stabbed in the chest with his own sword, by his own brother. A definite defeat
But Vergil takes this moment of defeat to impart his defining ideal to Dante, to show him why he lost. He does this using one line, a line that defined me as a young man, due to the struggles i faced in my own life
"Might controls Everything. And without strength, you cannot protect Anything. Not even yourself"
That single line pierced through my soul. The buildup to this makes the impact of it several-fold stronger. Here this guy is, standing on top of this massive tower. You struggle to get up it, and he defeats you and leaves you with that
You spend the next few missions digesting that, digesting what he said to you as you go further into the tower to find him again
Vergil's desire for strength ended up turning him into a monster in later games, but that desire was born from weakness, from when his mother was killed and he was powerless to do anything about it
I always remember that sentiment when i struggle. The power behind this story really shaped my younger self to always strive for the best when i could, to always hold my head up high, and to prove that despite my situation, my health, my economic situation, I HAVE POWER
We all have that power. Its the power of our human will and spirit, our innate drive to do what is right
Just take that sentiment with you, if nothing else
Love ya anons
