Sex trafficking

Police shut down sex trafficking operation in Seattle Chinatown massage parlors

Six people have been arrested for sex trafficking after a three-year police investigation of massage parlors in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District. Investigators say 11 massage parlors were shut down and more than 26 sex workers rescued during the operation in the US state of Washington. Many of the women, who range in age from 20 to 65, were brought to the United States from the Chinese mainland. Police said their investigations will continue since the businesses were linked to a larger criminal network.

Russia’s feared mafia leaders in ‘shock’ as Vladimir Putin shows who’s boss

Russia’s mob bosses have been able to avoid prosecution by limiting their direct involvement in criminal acts

But change in law will make being in charge of a criminal organisation enough to convict them

With their honour codes, elaborate tattoos and fearsome reputation, Russia’s crime bosses have for decades enjoyed a mythical status.

The Vory v Zakone, or Thieves in Law, have been an untouchable mobster elite, accumulating vast fortunes with little fear of retribution.

But a new bill, submitted to parliament by President Vladimir Putin and approved in its crucial second reading on Tuesday, is looking to put an end to their reigns.

“We must end this state within a state, and with it this romantic image that sometimes surrounds these ‘godfathers’ and presents them as heroes,” said Otari Arshba, a lawmaker with the pro-Kremlin United Russia party and the main supporter of the bill amending Russia’s criminal code.

The European Unions aviation safety regulator on Tuesday suspended all flights in the bloc by the 737 MAX and a U.S. senator who chairs a panel overseeing aviation suggested the United States take similar action following Sundays fatal crash, the second since October involving that type of plane.

Boeing’s 737 MAX 8: who’s grounding, who’s still flying troubled jet after Ethiopia crash

The second deadly crash of a prized new plane in five months has renewed safety concerns about the 737 MAX 8

Since debuting in 2017, Boeing has delivered more than 350 of them in several versions

A number of countries have grounded Boeing’s 737 MAX 8 medium-haul workhorse jet in response to an Ethiopian Airlines crash that killed all 157 people on board.

The Nairobi-bound plane was the same type as the Indonesian Lion Air jet that crashed in October, killing 189 passengers and crew – with some detecting similarities between the two accidents.

There are some 350 of the 737 MAX 8 planes currently in service around the world and while some countries and airlines have opted to ground the planes, others are continuing to fly the aircraft pending an investigation into the crash and possible guidance from Boeing itself.

121 detained, 182 madrasas seized in Pakistan crackdown

The operation began this week amid tensions between India and Pakistan after the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) claimed responsibility for the February 14 Kashmir suicide attack that killed 40 CRPF troopers.

Islamabad: Pakistan on Thursday said that law enforcement agencies took 121 people into preventive detention and seized 182 madrasas as part of its continuing crackdown on terror groups.

The operation began this week amid tensions between India and Pakistan after the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) claimed responsibility for the February 14 Kashmir suicide attack that killed 40 CRPF troopers.

The incident resulted in mounting pressure from the international community on Islamabad to act on terrorist groups based on its soil. Pakistan, however, says that its action against the terror groups was not taken under any pressure.

The Interior Ministry said 121 people were taken into preventive detention in compliance with the National Action Plan (NAP), according to Geo News.

Over 3,000 ISIS fighters and their family members surrender to SDF forces in Baghouz (video)

Footage filmed on Tuesday allegedly shows what Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) described as Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militants and their family members surrendering near the last IS stronghold in Syria, Baghouz.

Scores of injured men, women and children are filmed being helped up the mountainside. Later food is distributed amongst them and they are driven off on vans and trucks.

This follows Baghouz being heavily pounded by the coalition forces overnight.

Head of the SDF Press Office in northern Syria, Mustafa Bali, said on twitter that 3,000 IS fighters and their families surrendered to the SDF since Monday.

The SDF says the operation against the last IS stronghold started on March 1, after nearly 15,000 IS members surrendered with their families. It was then paused on March 4, as more wanted to surrender.

CIA May Be Behind February Attack on North Korean Embassy in Madrid - Reports

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Spanish police and intelligence officers, who are investigating the attack on the North Korean embassy in Madrid in February, believe that US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) may be behind the incident, El Pais newspaper reported on Wednesday.

According to El Pais, at least two out of 10 attackers were identified to have connections with US intelligence services. Spanish investigators have already requested the CIA about their involvement in the incident.

According to the publication, the CIA denied their guilt, but the response to the request was "unconvincing."

This incident may eventually lead to diplomatic friction between Madrid and Washington, the newspaper said. Sources in the Spanish government believe that if the CIA’s involvement in the attack is confirmed, it will be regarded as "unacceptable" actions by the ally. According to the publication, this would mean that US intelligence services acted in Spain without permission and violated international agreements protecting diplomatic missions

Just how naive are you

With the Clinton Hit List at over 50 Dead, It Isn't Conspiracy but a Pattern of Fact

When the same thing keeps happening over and over again, under the same circumstances, it is called a pattern. Even in science, this type of pattern is used in experiments to determine a theory to be fact. Conduct enough experiments that result in the same outcome, the project then becomes fact.

This same analogy has to be applied to the long line of deaths associated with those who were a threat to Hillary Clinton. No longer can we just chalk these deaths up to being mysterious or coincidence. Almost on a weekly basis, someone who either was going to testify against her, release damning evidence on her or was going to oppose her in some way, are found dead. Thus, the body count under these circumstances has become a pattern, one which simply cannot be ignored or brushed aside as coincidence.

Only in the last few days, the body of Miami Federal Prosecutor Beranton Whisenant Jr. washed up on a beach in Hollywood, Florida. The cause of death was either a gunshot wound or some other trauma to the head. Whisenant was investigating DNC voter fraud in Wasserman Schultz's district. Whisenant was a direct threat to Clinton in uncovering her collusion with Schultz and the DNC in fixing the 2016 election in her favor.

Philippines to bring back death penalty

Senate to decide on its stand on reinstating capital punishment, despite Pope’s declaration

Manila: The Philippine government will continue with its plan to make the death penalty part of its punitive recourse, despite Pope Francis’ declaration that capital punishment is “unacceptable” in all cases, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.

“It is still the priority of the administration to re-impose the death penalty for serious drug-related offences,” Roque said in a press briefing in Malaybalay, Bukidnon on Friday.

However, Roque added, the decision on re-imposing the capital punishment remains with the Senate and House on whether it will recall a 1993 law that provides for such penal option.

The Philippines has had an on and off penchant with the death penalty.

French Parliament Passes Controversial 'Anti-Riot' Bill in Final Reading

PARIS (Sputnik) – The French Senate, the upper house of the nation's parliament, passed an "anti-riot" bill in the second and final reading on Tuesday, despite concerns that it could curb civil liberties by giving local authorities the right to bar individuals who were engaged in riots before and proved to be violent from protesting.

"The number of those who took part in the voting was 343. The number of those who voted was 325. There were 210 [senators], who voted for the passage [of the bill], and 115 were against," the chairperson of the session said.

The bill, which has also been called the "anti-hooligan" law, has now passed on to French President Emmanuel Macron, who will either sign it into law or veto it.

How Mainstream Media Evolved into Corporate Media: A Project Censored History

This article appeared originally as Chapter 8 in Censored 2019: Fighting the Fake News Invasion

Historically the term “mainstream media” referred to the largest media outlets in the United States. Numbering in the hundreds, these newspapers and broadcast media outlets collectively reached a majority of the public. That was certainly the case in 1976 when Carl Jensen founded Project Censored. His concern was that the mainstream press increasingly left out important news stories; and, with Project Censored student researchers, he began to produce annual reports of the most important news stories ignored by the mainstream media. From the original photocopied reports to the first of the Project’s yearbooks published in 1993, Project Censored referred to the US media collectively as the press, mass media, or mainstream media. In the Project’s 20th anniversary yearbook, Carl wrote, “The Censored Yearbook is published annually in response to a growing national demand for news and information not published nor broadcast by the mainstream media in America” [Jensen, “20 Years of Raking Muck, Raising Hell,” in Censored: The News That Didn’t Make the News—and Why (New York: Seven Stories Press, 1996), p. 9].
