Nadler also said that Whitaker fired multiple U.S. attorneys in his new position, but Collins said these firings were related to run-of-the-mill personnel matters, nothing “nefarious.”

“While he was acting attorney general, Mr. Whitaker was directly involved in conversations about whether to fire multiple U.S. attorneys,” Nadler said.

Collins pushed back, saying the comments about Whitaker firing U.S. attorneys was part of "normal personnel issues."

"And to imply to it would imply anything else is really an over reach and a stretch that should not have been made," Collins told reporters. "That is the way I took it and there was not anything nefarious there."
