3,000 ISIS Fighters Surrender To US-Backed Forces In Euphrates Valley As Battle Heats Up
Over 3,000 ISIS fighters surrendered to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the middle Euphrates River Valley in the last 24 hours, a spokesman for the US-backed group announced on March 12.
“As the SDF continues the final push against whatever remains of so called caliphate [ISIS], jihadists are surrendering en masse since yesterday,” Mustafa Bali wrote on Twitter.
Despite the surrender of this large number of terrorists, the battle around the last ISIS stronghold north of the town of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani is still ongoing. The SDF press center said that US-led coalition warplanes carried out more than 20 airstrikes on the terrorist group’s positions in the last few hours.
According to the center, more than 38 ISIS fighters were killed. 11 vehicles, two ammo depots, three fortified positions and a command center of the terrorist group were also destroyed.
The battle north of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani is expected to last for a few more days as thousands of terrorists and civilians are still hiding there. Previously, the number of the remaining terrorist was estimated to be no more than 300
