I think that Facebook Lifelog is masking the incriminating evidence in another file, kind of like how zip files were embedded into images on Chans, to help hide the file during a quick simple delete. That way when data recovery software is used you pull up the 'garbage' mask. Otherwise they would have to take the drive offline for a low level wipe which is time consuming. Even with the garbage files they are slowing down.
