FB is not deleting shit. That data is valuable, they're saving it. I'm guessing the reason they're down is because they're encryption everything and it's taking longer than expected because of a 'garbage file.' Just speculation.

Also guessing the garbage file is either some file(s) that are growing during encryption causing a space shortage. OR the encrypted files they're producing are garbage (unreadable). No Such Agency knows a thing or two about HD firmware.

I know FB is a big consumer of the BTRFS file system on linux machines. The head BTRFS developer moved over to FB from Oracle several years ago.

 

Wonder if they ran into problems with the file system trying to encrypt everything?

 

BTRFS has been subject of a few jokes in the linux community for the last several years.

I agree, Q definitely feels different now then when first started. It has evolved over time, and eventually I can see this place outgrowing itself. But dont go just yet we need more anons like you around here.
