Not only were people snowed in, but schools were closed - announced the day before. AND, major military contractors in Denver like Lockheed-Martin closed all their facilities too.
The interesting part of all this is, Colorado often gets hit by a storm with lots of heavy, wet snow in March. This isn't unusual. The advanced closing of all schools and corporations and cancellations of flights - in advance - THAT is unusual.

The way the snowstorm shut down the airport is interesting. While it was still sunny and pleasant, the day before the storm, all the flights for the next (storm) day were cancelled.
The trouble is, as reported in this article, the 9th's ruling contradicts a precedent from the 3rd circuit on the same issue. And, prior SCOTUS rulings stated that circuit courts don't have jurisdiction in these cases. SO, it's almost certain to be overturned. It merely provides cover for Calif & Oregon nasty happenings until the cogs of justice turn.

The way this is worded implies the flights were cancelled AS hurricane-force wind gusts hit the airport. BUT, the flights were all cancelled the day BEFORE the storm hit. As were the school closing announcements made.
