How Does It Work?

Hyperloop engineers say it works by propelling pods using magnetic levitation through a low-pressure, near-vacuum tube. The low pressure minimizes friction and air resistance, greatly reducing the power needed.

Initial studies using something called ‘The Big Tube’ first began in Los Angeles. The three-and-a-half ton vessel was used to study things like the tube design, welds, vacuum pass-throughs, and manufacturing.

Virgin is testing the hyperloop at a site 35 miles north of the Las Vegas Strip and also has projects in other states and countries.
