I think you're going to see that this current scandal is a controlled burn and remains quite small. They put the face of two C- "celebs" out there but 99.9% of the corruption associated with academia will, as usual, go unpunished.
Time will tell. But corruption in academia is enormous and 99% of the guilty will never be touched. Just like with Wall Street. Sure, a few are sacrificed while the vast majority get away with it like they always do.
