The Haiti earthquake was devastating though. Think of how evil it would be to go from family to family twisting their arms for a little extra consideration for food/shelter/clothing/currency in exchange for their most precious children.

I couldn't do it, but I have never been that desperate. Would you trade your youngest so your oldest could eat? If you made that trade, could you then turn around and demand your baby back? Would you be too ashamed to show your face? These people needed charity and they were preyed upon.

True that, but I think what I was getting at is that it's hard for a middle income family to conceive of the desperation that would lead to selling a child. You can pass judgment and say the parents were evil but we don't know what they were going through at the time or the agony that decision may have left them with.

On the other hand it is very easy to see how someone could manipulate a desperate family and it is probably universally possible to declare a person who would view such a situation opportunistically as truly evil.

I hold compassion for the children and the parents but not for the villains who manipulated them or placed the children in harm's way.
