‘MAGA bomber’ Cesar Sayoc expected to plead guilty next weekBy Andrew Denney March 15, 2019 | 10:46pm
The so-called “MAGA bomber” who is accused of sending pipe bombs to former President Barack Obama, other prominent Democrats and CNN in the weeks before the 2018 midterm elections, is expected to plead guilty to charges next week.
Cesar Sayoc, 56, who was arrested in Florida last year in a van covered with pro-President Donald Trump stickers, pleaded not guilty last November when feds charged him with bevy of crimes including illegal mailing of explosives and using a weapon of mass destruction, for which he is facing a possible life sentence.
A new filing entered into the case on Friday shows that a scheduled March 21 pretrial hearing will instead be a plea hearing, meaning he could instead plead guilty.
Among those who received packages from Sayoc that authorities say contained explosive devices are former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton actor Robert De Niro and liberal philanthropist George Soros.
