Not sure if you noticed but this show only resulted in Trump getting to
veto something with a ton of fanfare and publicity. It's all about the optics.
They never had a chance to override his veto, which allowed Senators from
non-border states to "stand on principle" for their borderline constituents
without actually standing in the way. Most of these people have been
voting in lock-step for his nominations.
Sure, why not? This way Trump looks that much better when he says
"aw heck guys, maybe I should publicize it after all?" And then the
liberal tears flow.
Exactly. The outcome was safe which allowed him to stand on principle.
