I remember reading an article about a British bloke that found a jar of $20 US gold coins in his yard. 80 or so coins if i recall correctly.
Guy reports the find to authorities, turns out the fellow who buried them was a German banker fleeing prosecution in Nazi Germany. He then buried them in England before fleeing from the Blitz.
The bankers son was located and he claimed the coins. He gives the finder 1 coin as a reward and 1 coin to a local museum. I guess there was a second jar found 40 years prior that was claimed by the state.
I recall thinking to myself how this banker managed to escape persecution in Nazi Germany with 160 gold coins. At least the bankers son turned out more generous by rewarding the finder a entire coin.
