Solar activity is presently at a very low level.
When low, it does not push out a strong stream of electrically charged particles.
Without that stream of particles being captured by the earth, the earth's magnetic shielding is reduced.
So right now we are in a time with weak solar activity and a weak geomagnetic field.
As a result, MORE cosmic ray flux and other kinds of energetic particles arrive at the earth.
This is not a perfect picture to illustrate what I said, but should help envision the interaction of sun and earth as scientists currently discuss it. (Whether they are right or not is a totally different issue and I won't go into here.)
When you say "IT is strong", unless you say what "IT" is, nobody knows what you are talking about.
A gold room (or any room entirely tiled/papered with grounded metal shielding, no gaps) could be a faraday cage, sure. Usually rooms have gaps. Doors, windows, electrical outlets, plumbing, HVAC ducts, etc.
They used to print tabloids etc. on cheap newsprint that quickly yellowed because of the acid content. Hence Yellow Journalism = the cheap sheets.
