They cant have you see that there is a loaded mag in the hallway BEFORE he arrived. Must have missed it on the practice runs and once transmitting live it was too late. He picks it up and loads it in the rifle just before leaving so there is no doubt about it being a mag. It bothered him, he knew it was a screw up because he talked about 'leaving full mags behind' when driving away. Ooops.
