There's tons of unexploded ordinance on the islands and offshore. The Mainland, Iwakuni Prefecture is no exception.

On the island Okinawa there are signs everywhere reminding everyone of the unexploded ordinance. We found all sorts of stuff when we dived there. Lived on Okinawa for 4.5 years while in the Navy. CFAO/NAFK 1986-1991. ET2
