I seem to recall something about Facebook having some kind of VR project as well.
Would make sense the tech already exists prior to public announcement of it existing, to use it without too much suspicion. Say it's in the works. Finish it. Use it. Wait. Announce its public completion and function. Sheep none the wiser.
