Think about it this way, Anon. They showed us Saddam's dead sons and his public execution, but refused to show us bin Laden's body or any other proof of his demise.

 

Speculation: bin Laden died in years before (they were reports in the early 2000s of him needing kidney dialysis, so he wasn't in the best of health), and they kept the ruse up as an excuse to stay in Afghanistan.

The video was freely shared for 12 hours or so after the shooting, then people started calling it "fake" and calling it out questionable stuff in it, and that's when the super "you're going to jail if you possess the video" censorship crackdown started. Almost like they suddenly realized there's something really incriminating in there that they don't want us to find.
