Go tell that to the Vikings, the Romans, the Greeks, the Egyptians, and all other ancient religions before the rise of the current belief system of a single almighty being. For thousands of years, those civilizations and more knew that there were multiple gods that had some sort of control over their life, whether it was the climate, fertility, or something like bad luck or illnesses. People may laugh at that idea system today, but in those times it was reality.
Who's to say that monotheism is correct? Sure, it's the current widespread belief, but just because it's popular doesn't mean that it's correct.
(I do believe in God. I'm just raising a point about beliefs.)
