Stay away from platforms who base their profit off of siphoning personal user data and converting into advertising..
I believe there is going to be radical change soon in how platforms generate revenue. The ad model is too intrusive, primitive and strongly rebuked. The relationship between a website or an app and it’s user should not be pervasive.
When the socials start coming out with shitty overpriced products (Think oculus, fakebook phone) or aggressive acquisitions of startups it is their attempt at diversifying their wealth but actually they are just grasping for straws. That move signals their worth is near plateau and time to bail. I wouldn’t invest in such companies anyways – the profit model is based on intrusive collection of data from their users. And they censor legitimate political viewpoints to favor their own – definitely an abusive relationship.
When the product is essentially the mind and the voice of people and the company restricts or censors it – profits are hindered and trust erodes.
Don’t forget the big switch lots of folks made from MySpace to fakebook years ago.
Happened very quickly.
These companies are hanging by their fingernails. Someone will come up with a website or app that they simply won’t be able to buy out and sink that will replace their audacious shit show.
