I suspect that the cops simply shot her so they could go after her boyfriend.

Or maybe them shooting her is what inspired the boyfriend to join the track team.

Can't imagine her being inventive enough to drag the (previously unnoticed) pistol from its hiding place, maneuver the barrel into her mouth and then depress the trigger with her tongue … or able to summon up the 5#-7# pressure needed to do that.

Also don't see a REASON for her to do that.
