Job Openings Ripped Higher in January, Outnumbering the Unemployed by 1 Million

American employers posted nearly 7.6 million open jobs in January, one million more jobs than the U.S. has officially unemployed people.

That nearly matched the record high set in November and confirmed the very strong jobs numbers reported in January, when payrolls reportedly grew by 311,000.

Friday’s report also revised December upward, with 7.479 million openings compared to the initial report of 7.335 million.

US paratroopers alleged conduct overnight operation to bust ISIS sleeper cell in eastern Syria

BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:10 P.M.) – The U.S. military conducted a night time operation against the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) terror organization in eastern Syria on Sunday evening, local tribesmen reported via social media on Monday.

According to the reports, U.S. paratroopers landed in the Shaytat area of the Deir Ezzor Governorate, where they later raided a suspected Islamic State sleeper cell.

The reports said the U.S. paratroopers were transported to the Shaytat area by three army helicopters.

The U.S. military later arrested three suspected Islamic State members before leaving the area via helicopter.

This is not the first time that locals have reported U.S. special operations taking place at night; however since the Islamic State lost Al-Raqqa, these types of operations have become more prevalent.

Kansas: Overland Park Planning Commission Approves Muslim Brotherhood Mosque Expansion Next to Public Schools

More than 100 neighbors and supporters of the Hedaya Islamic Community Center turned out at the Overland Park Planning Commission Monday — so many that officials had to open up an overflow conference room. A neighborhood opposition leader said there would have been an even bigger turnout had it not been spring break.

But after two hours of discussion commissioners approved a preliminary plan for the corner at 16301 Roe Avenue, next door to Blue Valley Elementary and Middle schools.

“Zoning and land use issues are not a plebiscite of the neighborhood,” said real estate lawyer John Petersen, on behalf of the applicant. Petersen emphasized that the plan proposed by the Islamic Center is very similar to the one approved in 2007 for the Cambridge Church.

New science links soda with heart problems and two types of cancer

New science out of Harvard University found that the more soda people drink, the higher their risk of dying from heart disease, breast cancer, and colon cancer. The research was published today (March 18) in the American Heart Association’s journal, Circulation, and is just the latest (pdf) in a mounting pile of evidence showing that soda has had—and continues to have—a negative impact on public health in America.

“The big picture is really starting to emerge,” said Vasanti Malik, one of the co-authors of the study, in a conversation with CNBC. “This is not random. There’s a whole lot of consistency across these findings.”
