SYRIA UPDATE

President al-Assad to Shoigu: Russian-Syrian work and coordination were factors of Syria’s steadfastness against terrorism

President al-Assad affirmed that the Russian-Syrian joint work and the high level coordination in all fields, on top, in the military and political domains, were one of the decisive factors of Syria’s steadfastness in the face of terrorism and the achievements gained against Daesh, Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorist organizations.

Shoigu, for his part, stressed that his country is going ahead in combating terrorism along with the Syrian Arab army, adding “Russia will continue offering all forms of possible support to the Syrian people to complete liberation of all Syrian territories and preserve the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Syria.”

The talks also tackled the situation in Idleb and East of Euphrates regions.

Moscow, Damascus Say Syrians ‘Won’t Get a Dime’ of US Aid Money Earmarked for Them

Out of nearly $400mln earmarked by the US side for Syria’s assistance, the Syrian people won’t get a dime,” chiefs of the Russian and Syrian coordination headquarters, Mikhail Mizintsev and Hussein Makhlouf, said in the statement.

This sum is distributed “between the United Nations’ agencies and NGOs,” as well as the White Helmets group, which is notorious for staging false flag chemical attacks in Syria.

Syrian Defense Minister: Syrian Democratic Forces Are Only Card Remaining In U.S. Hands

The Syrian government will recapture territory controlled by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in the same way it “liberated” other parts of the country, Syrian Defense Minister Ali Abdullah Ayoub says.

“We do not compromise when it comes to our right to defend [Syrian] sovereignty,” Ayoub stressed at a joint press conference following a meeting with Chief of Staff of the Iraqi Armed Forces Othman Al-Ghanimi, and Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Mohammad Hossein Bagheri.

He stressed that the SDF is “the only card that remains in the hands of the Americans and their allies”.

“The Syrian government will deal with this issue in one of two ways: A reconciliation agreement or liberating the territory they control by force,” he said.

Ayoub continued by saying that Idlib will also be recaptured by the Syrian Army.

“The Syrian government will reassert its complete control over all Syrian territory sooner or later,” he said. “Idlib is no exception.”

German Jews for Palestinian Rights Receives a Peace Prize – And Are Dismissed as the Wrong Kind of Jews

Last week, the German organisation Jewish Voice for a Just peace in the Middle East received a peace prize from the city of Göttingen.

As the organisation supports the Palestinian call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel, the announcement of its nomination became a battleground, wherein prominent Jewish leaders tarnished its members as anti-Semites, suggesting that they were the ‘wrong kind of Jews’. The mayor and the president of the Göttingen university withdrew their support and cancelled the booking of halls for receptions. Nonetheless the jury stuck to its decision, and crowdfunded a prize of 28,000 Euros, which the organisation will donate to human rights organisation in Palestine as well as to the liberal Israeli +972 Magazine.

This is not the first time the organisation is targeted for its Palestinian solidarity. In 2016, after an incitement campaign by the Israeli government and its local supporters, the bank account of the organisation was closed. This was in fact the first time in the post-WW2 era, that an account held by a Jewish organisation in Germany was closed. It was explicitly explained to them that this was for political reasons – if they would rescind their support for BDS, they could reopen the account. Only after a massive protest campaign, were they allowed to reopen the account.

This is a familiar pattern in Germany, where Holocaust guilt is weaponised as a means of stifling any meaningful protest against Israel and its policies.

Government-Big Tech Collaboration Waging War Against the People

War By Other Means

On March 14, 2019, the Senate Armed Services Committee held a hearing on the budget for the Defense Department. Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan and General Joseph Dunford testified. When it was Senator Josh Hawley’s turn to ask questions, he asked about Google. The following is a clip of the question and answer.

There was a technology plan that went along with Gibbon’s testimony. The following is an excerpt from the report concerning the funding and requirement for the National Laboratories to work with the private sector in the development of technologies and to provide funding for the Universities and Extension Centers to do the same.

National Laboratories and Universities

GOAL: WORLD LEADERSHIP IN BASIC SCIENCE, MATHEMATICS, AND ENGINEERING

University Research

National Laboratories

Space Science and Exploration

Environmental Research

It is essential to recognize that technical advances depend on basic research in science, mathematics, and engineering. Scientific advances are the wellspring of the technical innovations whose benefits are seen in economic growth, improved health care, and many other areas. The federal government has invested heavily in basic research since the

Second World War and this support has paid enormous dividends. Our research universities are the best in the world; our national laboratories and-the research facilities they house attract scientists and engineers from around the globe. In almost every field, United States researchers lead their foreign colleagues in scientific citations, in Nobel prizes, and most other measures of scientific excellence.

University Research. The National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health provide the vast majority of Federal funding for university research. Since universities play dual roles of research and teaching, the long-term scientific and technological vitality of the U.S. depends upon adequate and sustained funding for university research grant programs at NSF, NIH, and other research agencies.

They’ve all had a lot of fun in Washington DC and they’ve all made a lot of money while the domestic economy was being bled out and the American workforce crushed but maybe just maybe the meaning of War in the Context of Everything Else is beginning to penetrate their armored skulls. The enemy isn’t just out there, the enemy is also in here. They are in the National Laboratories, the Universities and they are in the halls of government. They’ve nearly killed the golden goose and now China is getting the golden eggs. We’ve been waiting for a return of serious adults (real Americans) to the beltway. Maybe this is the time? Maybe this year?

From the British Empire to ‘Global Britain’: How the UK enables human rights abuses in the UAE and the Gulf

During his most recent visit to Abu Dhabi, British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt hailed the United Arab Emirates as a beacon of tolerance. Barely four months earlier, the tone was somewhat different, with the Matthew Hedges “spying” debacle threatening to cause a serious rift in bilateral ties. News has now emerged that, far from prioritising Hedges’ freedom, Britain was, in fact, close to signing a memorandum of understanding with the UAE whilst the PhD student was still detained and facing life imprisonment. The UAE’s continued abuse of the rights of Emiratis and Yemenis, as well as UK citizens Ali Issa Ahmed and Andrew Neal, lays bare Britain’s failure to hold its historical ally to account.

Today the UAE acts with total impunity. This would not be possible if it were not for the key role outlined for the Gulf in the current British government’s post-Brexit vision of “Global Britain”. The seven Emirates which now constitute the UAE were once ruled as British protectorates known as the Trucial States alongside Bahrain and Qatar; both were initially set to join the UAE, but Saudi Arabia ensured that they did not. Although the UAE has become an important international political, economic and military actor, it remains heavily dependent on Britain, the USA, and France for its security and defence; all three maintain permanent military bases there.

Britain’s inertia regarding the UAE’s mounting human rights abuses is entirely unjustifiable but taken within the context of its colonial past it comes as no major surprise. In 1930, Lebanese journalist Ameen Rihani wrote: “Security and peace England has brought to the Arabs of the Gulf… But what is it costing the Arabs? The Gulf should be renamed: it is neither Persian nor Arabian, it is British.” Unwavering British support for their favoured rulers in the Gulf ensures British economic and strategic interests are protected, at the expense of the Khaleeji people.

Global Britain as advocated by Trade Minister Liam Fox and Defence Minister Gavin Williamson is steeped in imperial nostalgia for the East India Company and the British Raj. UK foreign policy is predominantly a tool to boost trade and protect British commercial interests. In April 2018, at the opening of the Royal Navy base in Bahrain, the need for a British military presence in the Gulf to fortify the post-Brexit project was spelled out by Williamson: “Our Armed Forces are the face of Global Britain and our presence in Bahrain will play a vital role in keeping Britain safe as well as underpinning security in the Gulf.”
