POTUS is the top man, dependent as he may be on the expertise and experience of significant individuals around him. There is unity of purpose even if the particulars must be authorized by the Republic -- the man who holds the office of President. It is too easy to underestimate the man in office and too easy to imagine a greater individual behind the "throne". The Republic is not a myth. Think Lincoln. The right people in the right place, yes. But they are not just there by fortune alone.

Not for a second is Trump a mere figurehead. But he is intelligent enough to defer where that means better decisions and more effective actions. Think of the open decision on terms of engagement on the battlefront.

A great leader welcomes the presence of men smarter or wiser or more talented/ competent in areas he is average or under-average. One enjoys the thot of a single man in charge of everything, but that is not what we have in our Republic. Can't be. Human nature dictates our limitations.

But. Never Give Up is prolly the cost of admission. A Must Have. And POTUS has that bigly. So he wold be right to expect that of those around him, as well.

Directing? Advising?

I do think that Trump is more than capable of keeping up with the highly experienced intelligence operatives you have in mind. If they are not prepared to defer to the authority of the Republic, then, they can not save the Republic, Anon. And I do not think POTUS can be bullied out of his authority.

If anything, he is more likely to take too much on himself. See how he got very involved with the recent Boeing 737 Max issue and got ahead of the FCC. Just an example, albeit one that is far more public but nonetheless very sensitive, technical, and broad in scope.

CNN's raison d'être is no longer to make news, to make a profit, to make a sustainable business. Their model is quite different today. A melding of Pravda and Izvestia, has refined its function. They look to a global market that is not commercial but serves the global BOSSes. It is like having a foreign propaganda machine on domestic soil.

Wait a minute …

I do think he is very well briefed by people upon whom he makes yuge demands; and they deliver so they must be gifted and hardworking patriots. Sometimes this sort of gold dust is wasted on corruption and self-indulgence. I can see how Trump could have been formidable if he went that route. Fortunately, for whatever reason, he chose a higher path.

Nothing corrupts like power so let us pray he stays on the higher path. Each of us is or can become vulnerable to temptation.
