They probably were remote controlled, but they were not airplanes.

Radar tracks show that whatever hit the twin towers traveled at about 500kn at close to ground level.

That is far above the speed where a commercial airliner physically breaks apart due to the air resistance at ground level. I don't know what they were, but they were NOT airplanes.
