Insurance Companies Could Start Tracking Social Media Accounts To Determine Premiums
Insurance companies will likely start looking at social media accounts to determine premiums for their customers, according to āFox & Friendsā contributor Kurt Knutsson.
āThereās very little of anything thatās stopping insurance company representatives from scouring through history of all of our online posts,ā Knutsson said Friday.
āA warning this morning to really pay attention to whatās on there from ā¦ well your cigar smoking and skydiving photos might want to come down. Anything that shows risky behavior, you can go ahead and look in the history of your posts, you know, you donāt want to show yourself smoking if you smoke. You donāt want to show yourself having what would seem like a rambunctious time with alcohol.ā
Knutsson said activities like extreme sports without a helmet or other high risk behavior could end up costing people money.
āEngaging in high risk sports such as for skydiving, especially without a helmet ā¦ you want to make sure you have your helmet on if you do that. Any sort of reckless behavior that you know inherently would freak your mother out would be the same thing thatās going to freak out the insurance company,ā he said.

Will Artificial Intelligence End Up Being Really Stupid?
The pro-AI hype surrounding it offers human-level intelligence, but the reality may be far less. AI may find narrow areas of application, but no amount of knowledge can lead to wisdom. ā TN Editor
Itās hard to go anywhere these days without coming across some mention of artificial intelligence (AI). You hear about it, you read about it and itās hard to find a presentation deck (on any subject) that doesnāt mention it. There is no doubt there is a lot of hype around the subject.
While the hype does increase awareness of AI, it also facilitates some pretty silly activities and can distract people from much of the real progress being made. Disentangling the reality from the more dramatic headlines promises to provide significant advantages for investors, business people and consumers alike.
Artificial intelligence has gained its recent notoriety in large part due to high profile successes such as IBMās Watson winning at Jeopardy and Googleās AlphaGo beating the world champion at the game āGoā. Waymo, Tesla and others have also made great strides with self-driving vehicles. The expansiveness of AI applications was captured by Richard Waters in the Financial Times [here}: āIf there was a unifying message underpinning the consumer technology on display [at the Consumer Electronics Show] ā¦ it was: āAI in everythingā.ā
