How much more before Facebook is shut down?

A 53-year-old Florida woman killed herself on Facebook Live — as viewers helplessly watched the disturbing footage unfold on their screens, authorities said.

Merilee Joyce Turner of Cudjoe Key was seen wounding herself with an object Wednesday night in a clip livestreamed on the social media site, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

At least a few friends saw Turner’s final moments online, including one who called 911 to report the incident, authorities said.

Emergency crews responded around 10:15 p.m. to Turner’s residence and discovered the woman with what appeared to be a stabbing wound, deputies said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said an autopsy is pending.

“Foul play is not suspected,” sheriff’s office spokesman Adam Linhardt told the Miami Herald. “We’re not looking for anybody. It’s obviously self-inflicted wounds, but there could have been other factors involved.”

Facebook has since removed the horrific footage from Turner’s page, which features smiling photos with relatives at the beach.

“Dear friend you will always have a special place in my heart,” one friend posted.

The footage of Turner’s suicide is the latest violent incident to be broadcast on the social media platform.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg vowed in April 2018 the company would work toward thwarting the spread of violent content. But the company has continued to struggle to monitor instances of bloodshed and self-harm.

Earlier this month, the company was forced to scrub more than 1.5 million videos of the New Zealand mosque massacre, which was livestreamed by the killer.

Suicide contagion has also run rampant on the social media giant.

A 14-year-old girl, Naika Venant, hanged herself in a Facebook Live video in January 2017 at the Miami Gardens, Fla., apartment she shared with her foster parents.

Less than a day later, an aspiring actor, Frederick Jay Bowdy, fatally shot himself while broadcasting to Facebook from inside a car in North Hollywood, Calif.

A rep for Facebook responded to Wednesday’s incident in a statement provided to The Post.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and our hearts go out to the victim’s friends and family,” a spokesperson said. “Members of our community should contact local first responders directly if they become aware of a situation where the authorities can help. We will also notify first responders if we see a threat that requires an immediate response.”
