Gnostic Gospels aren't about "secret teachings". That's all media hype. It's a practice that's outlined in the New Testament. There were teachings to the masses, and then expounded teachings to those he spent the most time with, i.e. the four and the twelve.
A lot of the teachings are sort of fringy/cringy, but there's still there's plenty there to take in for assembling a more complete picture of Christian thought, in relationship to what became "orthodox" Christianity.
