An Irishman the FBI branded the “largest facilitator of child porn on the planet” was extradited to the United States on Saturday.

Gardai confirmed that Eric Eoin Marques had been booted out of the country after he lost the final round of his six-year extradition battle on Wednesday.

He will now be tried in a US court where he could be handed FOUR consecutive life sentences if convicted.

In a statement gardai said: “An Garda Siochana confirms that Eric Eoin Marques was this morning extradited to the United States.

“He was surrendered to FBI Agents at Dublin Airport and will appear in Court in the US on Monday.”

Marques, 33, faces spending the rest of his days behind bars in one of America’s toughest prisons.Marques has both Irish and US citizenship and is suspected of operating a dark web hosting site linked to images depicting the rape and torture of prepubescent children.

The FBI claims he owned Freedom Hosting, giving users anonymous access to hundreds of websites carrying graphic and violent images of kids being abused.

Some of the victims of the horrific abuse were babies.

The 33-year-old operated the sick forum in isolation from his father’s one-bedroom flat on the corner of Mountjoy Square in inner city Dublin until his arrest in 2013.

The ‘hyper-max’ North Branch Correctional Institution is a hi-tech, maximum security prison whose 1,400 inmates include some of Baltimore’s toughest gang leaders.
