As best as I can tell the difference, RV is staying on the lowest plane right outside our physical reality and you get to see a scene somewhere. With astral projection you get out of your body and fly around and can access higher "levels" for lack of a better term. Some people see a cord of light going back to their physical body. For what its worth I have never seen the cord. I can recommend both Robert Bruce and Robert Monroe who take a somewhat technical exploration of the subject. The huge hemi sync program by Monroe uses binaural beats and he talks you through everything. The idea of the course isn't for you to rely on the recordings to astral project, but to teach you how to do it yourself without the tapes.
I haven't tried to use these skills in a decade and I'm hesitant to use them in regards to this subject. Think evil.

Interesting. Do you mind saving me a bit of time and linking me something on that exact topic? Most of the time when I try to get out of my body it feels like someone is shooting a huge light gun in my face and I snap back.
I don't have personal experience with satanists, but I don't doubt it. It doesn't seem to discriminate on your intentions. That being said, from my experience (limited!) the amount you can influence the physical plane it frustratingly small.
