They can't Take the gut wrenching dissappointment anymore. The Base no longer Trusts the Media. The Dem Base No Longer Believes Trump is a criminal that will be thrown out of office.
The Base wants Results, A gov that works FOR them, Not a Gov that uses Gov to protect themselves from being prosecuted for their past crimes.
Schiff needs something, anything, to show Trump is untrustworthy somehow. He thinks this will help postpone or drownout his own persecution.
