An LNG carrier and a VLCC collided off Fujairah during the hours of darkness.

Officials at the Shipping Corp of India (SCI) confirm that the 155,000-cbm LNG carrier Aseem (built 2009), in which SCI is the major shareholder, was involved in a collision with the 281,395-dwt tanker Shinyo Ocean (built 2001).

SCI said the Aseem is now at anchor and the company is waiting for the surveyors' report before releasing any further information.

The LNG carrier, which is on charter to India's Petronet LNG shipping cargoes between Qatar and India, is understood to have been in ballast at the time.

Sources indicate both vessels sustained bow damage.

The Shinyo Ocean is listed under Navios Midstream's fleet.

TradeWinds was not immediately able to contact Navios for comment.
