I wondering if this was used to set up the narrative that what the DA did for Smollett is the same as what Barr did for Trump. Why else would Rahm put on the act he did?
Foxx was supposedly recused, so shove the blame on the white guy, who says, basically, "Yeah, I did it but he's not exonerated." Sound familiar?
I think they thought they could cover for Foxx with the MSM but weren't aware of texts coming out; or, they just said fuck it about the texts because conflating Smollett/Chicago DA and Trump/Barr would bump it off the news.
