Plane that crashed in Loveland came from Colorado Springs Air Force base

The plane that crashed in northern Loveland Saturday was part of a for-rent instruction fleet based out of the Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs.

Spokesman for the 21st Space Wing, Steve Brady, confirmed Monday morning that the single-engine, high-wing Cessna was part of the base's Aero Club, also known as the Rocky Mountain Flight Training Center.

"The Rocky Mountain Flight Training Center is a United States Air Force Aero Club serving the greater Colorado Springs community," reads the Aero Club's website. "Membership is open to active duty, active reserve, National Guard, and retired military personnel. Dependents of military personnel, base contractors, and Civil Air Patrol members are also welcome to join."

Brady said he could not provide any further information on Saturday's crash, and that the National Transportation Safety Board is heading the investigation.

Larimer County Sheriff's Office personnel arrived at the crash site Saturday, though spokesman Jered Kramer said Monday that the Sheriff's Office handed the investigation over to the NTSB soon after initial response. He noted that the NTSB would be providing any further information on the cause of the crash.

Employees of the Aero Club told the Reporter-Herald that they could not provide any information during the active investigation.

The Peterson AFB Aero Club occupies Hangar 113 at the base, according to their website. Brady said the base shares space with the Colorado Springs Airport, located about 115 linear miles from the crash site at Mountain View Farm, also known as The Dairy, on the corner of County Road 30 and Boyd Lake Avenue.

Farm owner Shelly Dickinson said Monday that the plane crashed on her property, and wreckage was removed the same day.

"The Dairy is just happy everyone survived," Dickinson said in an email. "There was no damage to the facility."

According to LFRA Battalion Chief Tim Smith, on the scene of the crash Saturday, the three passengers aboard the plane were transported to the Medical Center of the Rockies for non-life threatening injuries.

The names of the plane's occupants have not yet been released by authorities.
