Brexit news - LIVE: Theresa May tells Tory MPs she will quit after EU exit as Bercow puts third meaningful vote in doubt

Theresa May has told Tory MPs she will resign before the next phase of Brexit talks, in an attempt to secure support for her deal.

Addressing the 1922 committee of backbench Conservatives, the prime minister said she "would not remain in post for the next phase of the negotiations", making way for a successor once her Brexit deal has passed.

The dramatic news comes as MPs were preparing for a series of crunch votes to measure support for different Brexit scenarios, including a fresh Brexit referendum and a customs union.

Results from the "indicative votes" ballot and a debate on the legal changes needed to delay Britain’s departure from the EU are expected after 9pm.
