Arab League: Countries that move embassies to Jerusalem risk relations with Arab world

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit warned countries against moving their embassies to the occupied city of Jerusalem, saying they risk their relations with the Arab world.

The official’s spokesperson, Ambassador Mahmoud Afifi, said: “Countries that wish to please the United States and Israel by announcing the transfer of their embassies to Jerusalem are involved in a serious violation of international law which considers Jerusalem territory occupied in 1967.”

“The embassies’ transfer is illegal and does not change this situation, and does not earn the occupation any legal status,” he added.

Afifi said the secretary-general rejects the announcement made by the president of Honduras and prime minister of Romania on their intention to transfer their countries’ embassies to Jerusalem.

Afifi noted that in the case of Romania, it seems that the decision to transfer the embassy to Jerusalem was based on the prime minister’s personal judgement and that the Romanian president had a different opinion based on his understanding of the negative consequences.

“Some countries took similar steps like the Republic of Paraguay but had to change their position after careful consideration of its negative and serious consequences,” Afifi said, calling on Honduras and Romania to also review their positions.

Settlers Raid Two Elementary Schools

A group of Israeli settlers attempted to raid two Palestinian elementary schools on Tuesday afternoon, in the Tuqu village, southeast of the southern occupied West Bank district of Bethlehem.

Locals told Ma’an News Agency that heavily armed Israeli forces escorted a group of Israeli settlers who were gathered, holding Israeli flags, near the two mixed elementary schools, and attempted to break in.

Sources mentioned that teachers and school staff prevented Israeli settlers from entering the premises and closed the main gates.

The attack caused panic among the students, forcing the two schools to dismiss them early, in fear that the settlers would become violent.

No injuries were reported.

It is noteworthy that the Palestinian Ministry of Education released its annual report, for 2017, documenting the Israeli government’s violations against Palestinian education, saying that 80,279 Palestinian children and 4,929 teachers and staff were attacked by Israeli settlers or soldiers.

According to the report, nine students were killed, while 603 students and 55 teachers and school employees sustained live or rubber-coated bullet wounds during Israeli raids into schools, or were being run over by Israeli military jeeps, while dozens of students suffered from suffocation due to inhaling tear-gas fired by Israeli forces against them.

‘Israeli air strikes damaged 500 Palestinian homes’

A total of 500 houses in the Gaza Strip were damaged by the latest Israeli airstrikes, Palestine’s public works minister said late Tuesday.

“In Israeli airstrikes against Gaza, 30 houses were completely destroyed and 500 houses were damaged,” Mufeed al-Hasayneh said in a statement.

He added that they are working to remove the traces of the airstrikes and alleviate the pain of their people.

Israel launched a wave of airstrikes Monday across the Gaza Strip following rocket fire from the enclave which injured seven Israelis north of Tel Aviv.

The army reportedly deployed missile-defence batteries in several locations across the country while sending two additional infantry brigades to the Gaza-Israel buffer zone.

Hamas announced late Monday that Egypt had managed to secure a cease-fire between Israel and Gaza-based resistance factions.

While there was no comment from Egypt, several Israeli officials denied that a cease-fire deal had been reached.

Israeli Forces Kill Paramedic In Deheishe Refugee Camp, In Bethlehem

A young Palestinian paramedic, Sajid Abdel Hakim Helmi Mizhir, 17, was shot and killed by Israeli forces who opened fire at his despite wearing his clearly marked medic vest. He died of his wounds in the hospital soon after.

The troops invaded Deheishe camp on Wednesday at dawn, and injured several Palestinians. Sajid was there to treat the wounded, when he was shot in the abdomen.

During the invasion, the soldiers stormed and ransacked several homes, and abducted Mohammad Riziq Hammash, 21, Mahmoud Walid Lahham, and Ma’ali Issa Ma’ali, 27.

The Palestinian Health Ministry issued a statement denouncing Sajed’s death, and stated that the constant targeting of medics and journalists is serious violation of International Law and all related international resolutions, especially the laws that protect civilians in the time of war.

Palestinian Health Minister, Dr. Jawad Awwad, said the soldiers shot and killed Sajed with live fire, despite his clearly marked medic vest.

He added that the Israeli crimes and violations against Palestinian medics have led to the death of four medics since 2018, in addition to dozens of injuries and serious damage to ambulances and clinics.

It is worth mentioning that his cousin, Arkan Tha’er Mizhir, 15, was killed by Israeli soldiers on July 22, 2018, after the army invaded the refugee camp.

Russia calls for ending Israel bombing of Gaza

The Russian foreign ministry expressed its deep concerns regarding the latest wave of Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip, Qatari newspaper Al-Sharq reported yesterday.

In a statement, reported by the newspaper, the Russian foreign ministry described the Israeli bombing of the Strip as “dangerous” and warned it might renew the armed conflict between the two sides and lead to killing of civilians.

The Russian ministry called for both sides to show restraint and return immediately to a sustainable ceasefire, stressing that stopping violence, reaching solutions for Gaza and achieving sustainable peace in the region necessitate the resumption of peace talks based on UN resolutions and Arab Peace Initiative.

During the past two days, Israeli warplanes carried out more than 50 strikes in the Gaza Strip that damaged 500 Palestinian homes.

The Ministry of Health said that ten Palestinians were wounded in the Israeli attacks.

Did Mueller Know There Was No Trump-Russia Collusion Before The Midterms?

Almost from the start, Democrats and their media echo chamber have moved the goal posts on collusion. The original allegation – the political narrative that the Clinton campaign, through Obama administration alchemy, honed into a counterintelligence investigation – was that that the Trump campaign was complicit in Russia’s “cyberespionage” attacks on the 2016 election.

But there was no evidence that candidate Trump and his surrogates had anything to do with the Kremlin’s hacking and propaganda schemes. And no supporting logic. The Russians are very good at espionage. They neither needed nor wanted American help, their operations predated Trump’s entry into the campaign, and some of those operations were anti-Trump.

Nevertheless, in short order, that endlessly elastic word, collusion, was being stretched to the breaking point – covering every conceivable type of association between Trump associates and Russia.

Some of these were unseemly, such as the Trump Tower meeting, an apparently unsuccessful effort to obtain campaign dirt on Hillary Clinton. More of them were routine, such as incoming national-security adviser Michael Flynn’s communications with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the post-election transition. But none of these collusion episodes were criminal. The only “collusion” prosecutors care about is conspiracy; a criminal agreement to violate a federal penal statute – such as the laws against hacking.

There was never any such evidence. There was just unverified, sensational, hearsay nonsense – the Steele dossier generated by the Clinton campaign.

Now that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has concluded that there was no criminal collusion, the question arises: When during their exhaustive 22-month investigation did prosecutors realize they had no case?

Sen. Bernie Sanders 2020 presidential campaign has been hit with a complaint to the Federal Election Commission and has been accused of breaking a major federal law.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, the complaint filed by the Coolidge Reagan Foundation alleges that the Sanders presidential campaign is violating federal election law by employing three foreign nationals in advisory campaign positions.

The complaint specifically names three individuals who are currently working for Sanders campaign, including Maria Belén Sisa, an illegal immigrant from Argentina who is in the United States under the protections of the Obama-era Deferred Actions for Childhood Arrivals program.

Sisa serves as the deputy national press secretary for Bernie’s 2020 campaign and also collected a salary from Sanders failed 2016 campaign.

The complaint argues that Sisa and two others working for Sanders campaign is a “direct and serious violations” of federal election law.

Foreign nationals are legally prohibited from working in any capacity in the decision-making process of any person with regard to election-related activities.

This also includes foreign nationals and all immigrants who are not lawfully admitted as permanent residents — which applies to Sisa and the two other Sanders campaign workers.

“Senator Sanders and Bernie 2020 is permitting a foreign national, Ms. Sisa, to serve in an advisory position which allows her to directly or indirectly participate in the decision-making process of persons with regard to election-related activities in violation of FEC regulations,” the complaint states.

The complaint also notes Sanders 2016 presidential campaign hired, employed, and salaried Sisa as well as two other foreign nationals, Erika Andiola and Cesar Vargas.

Political Zionism Deserves Criticism

As you would imagine, most despotic states war against their own citizens when leveling criticism towards their own government, that is a given with oppressive, wicked regimes. But what kind of twilight-zone world do we live in when a government disallows criticism of a foreign government? Well just this week at the AIPAC summit in D.C., Secretary of State Mike Pompeo like many other world leaders have stated they will police their citizens for anti-Zionist sentiments, equating it to racism saying,

Pompeo was one of the many elected officials from both Israel and America to speak at the event hosted by the pro-Israeli lobby. The State Department has historically been viewed by many pro-Israel activists as leaning toward pressuring Israel into compromise vis-a-vis the Palestinians. However the Trump Administration seems to have shifted the narrative, recognizing Israel's right to the Golan Heights on Monday. The strategic highlands was controlled by Syria from 1948 to 1967.

Last year, US President Donald Trump defended Israel's right to both eastern and western Jerusalem, moving the US embassy to the capital. "The rise of antisemitism and anti-Zionism strikes at the very foundation of freedom," Pompeo added. "The Trump Administration opposes it unequivocally and will fight it relentlessly, from the fever swamp of the UN Human Rights Council to the world’s number one proponent of antisemitism: Iran." Why would any independent nation, of any stripe care to enforce anti-hate laws, or anti-free speech laws on behalf of another nation? Yet, this is exactly what has happened with Israel relative to the rest of the world. Nations all over the earth are prosecuting their own citizens based on nothing more than their criticism of Zionism and Israel, equating anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism. How has Israel obtained this favored status when no other nation, including the Unites States has forced other nations to do so?

In February, U.S. President Donald Trump sent a delegation to Israel who equated criticism of the 100-year-old political movement called Zionism with anti-Semitism and racism. Elan Carr, head of the anti-Semitism envoy stated this,

“Elan Carr, the United States’ new envoy to combat anti-Semitism, told American Jewish leaders in Jerusalem that he will work to end the “attempted distinction” between anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism, while praising U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts to combat the “scourge.”

“I will work to eradicate the attempted distinction between anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism. There is no distinction,” he told U.S. Jewish leaders gathered at Jerusalem’s Inbal Hotel as part of the annual Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations summit.

“There is a greater rise in new anti-Semitism that clothes itself as anti-Zionism. The anti-Semitism of the European street, of the college campus and of those that have embraced the notion that the Jewish people don’t have a right to their homeland,” said Carr.

“Zionism wasn’t born in 1948 or with [Theodor] Herzl or with the First Zionist Congress. Zionism started with Parshat Lech-Lecha, with Moses and on the banks of the river of Babylon,” he said. “Anyone who attempts to deny the Jewish religion its basic faith tenets, its rights to a homeland is wading into anti-Semitism. Just three months ago, Pelosi told another Israel lobby group:

I believe that the establishment of the state of Israel was the greatest political accomplishment of the Twentieth Century.

Last spring Pelosi said on her website before bringing a delegation to Israel:

There is no greater political accomplishment in the 20th Century than the establishment of the State of Israel.

In March 2017 she told AIPAC:

It is my firm belief that the establishment of the State of Israel—and you’ve heard me say this at other AIPAC meetings—the 20th Century had some horrible -isms, terrible things were done to people, but it is my firm belief that the establishment of the State of Israel is the greatest political achievement of the 20th Century this great beacon.

Back in 2014 Pelosi welcomed Benjamin Netanyahu to Washington in fulsome terms:

House Armed Services chairman denies $1 billion transfer for Trump wall

The U.S. House of Representatives Armed Services Committee on Tuesday denied the Pentagon's plan to shift $1 billion to build a wall on the U.S. border with Mexico, a move that while largely symbolic, highlights the concern lawmakers have about using the defense budget to pay for the wall.

Acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan announced on Monday that the Department of Defense had shifted $1 billion from other military construction projects to build part of the barrier along the southern border.

Democratic Representative Adam Smith, the committee's chairman, said the panel did not approve the proposed use of Pentagon funds.

His stance could end up being symbolic, as the Pentagon insists it has the authority to shift the money. However, it could prompt Congress to change the law to prevent presidents from taking similar action in the future.

A court battle over the issue is also likely.

"The committee denies this request. The committee does not approve the proposed use of Department of Defense funds to construct additional physical barriers and roads or install lighting in the vicinity of the United States border," Smith said in a letter to the Department of Defense.

During a House Armed Services Committee hearing that was in progress when Smith released his statement, Shanahan acknowledged that the decision to move money could impact the Pentagon's ability to reprogram funds in the future.

"It was a very difficult discussion and we understand the significant downsides of losing what amounts to a privilege," Shanahan said.

Shanahan's move to shift military dollars to pay for the wall without consulting Congress could lead lawmakers to cut off the Pentagon's authority to reprogram funds, something Smith hinted at during the hearing.

Lawmakers from both political parties were critical of the decision to use military funds for the wall.

"Changing decades of reprogramming practice is going to have difficult consequences for the whole government, but especially for the Department of Defense," Representative Mac Thornberry said in the hearing.

The House failed on Tuesday to override President Donald Trump's first veto of the "national emergency" he declared last month to build a U.S.-Mexico border wall that Congress has not funded.

Smith told the hearing that Trump's proposed $750 billion defense budget would not pass as it was proposed. That budget included $100 billion in a "slush fund" meant to fund ongoing wars but which the Pentagon intends to use to boost the amount of money it has available to avoid budget caps.

The U.S. government, in its pursuit of so-called monsters, has itself become a monster.

This is not a new development, nor is it a revelation.

This is a government that has in recent decades unleashed untold horrors upon the world—including its own citizenry—in the name of global conquest, the acquisition of greater wealth, scientific experimentation, and technological advances, all packaged in the guise of the greater good.

Mind you, there is no greater good when the government is involved. There is only greater greed for money and power.

Unfortunately, the public has become so easily distracted by the political spectacle coming out of Washington, DC, that they are altogether oblivious to the grisly experiments, barbaric behavior and inhumane conditions that have become synonymous with the U.S. government.

These horrors are being meted out against humans and animals alike.

It’s heartbreaking enough when you hear about police shooting family dogs that pose no threat—beloved pets that are “guilty” of little more than barking, or wagging a tag, or racing towards them in greeting—at an alarming rate somewhere in the vicinity of 500 dogs a day.

What I’m about to share goes beyond heartbreaking to horrifying.

For instance, did you know that the U.S. government has been buying hundreds of dogs and cats from “Asian meat markets” as part of a gruesome experiment into food-borne illnesses? The cannibalistic experiments involve killing cats and dogs purchased from Colombia, Brazil, Vietnam, China and Ethiopia, and then feeding the dead remains to laboratory kittens, bred in government laboratories for the express purpose of being infected with a disease and then killed.

Sanders, Pelosi, Ocasio-Cortez hang transgender pride flags in Congress

Pink, blue and white transgender pride flags are dotting the halls of Congress this week, where members are displaying them ahead of International Transgender Day of Visibility on Sunday.

Flags were spotted outside the offices of Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Rep. Jennifer Wexton, D-Va., among others.

"Discrimination has no place in our society," Sanders said in a statement shared with NBC News. "I am proud to display this flag as a symbol of my support for transgender people across the country. We must stand with transgender people in all of our communities."

The transgender pride flags were provided to members of Congress by the National Center for Transgender Equality.

"Transgender people are in every town, every city, and every district. We are woven into the fabric of American society and we are never going anywhere," Gillian Branstetter, a spokesperson for NCTE, said in an email. "We wanted to make it clear to every member of Congress that we are their constituents and our rights can no longer be ignored"

According to Branstetter, International Transgender Day of Visibility "is most often credited to Michigan advocate Rachel Crandall, who launched the first commemoration in 2009."

"Transgender people are often told to hide ourselves from public life, whether it's before we leave the closet or after we come out and find ourselves judged for failing to conform to strict gender norms," Branstetter said. "But our visibility is also our greatest strength. By living our lives without fear or shame, we can change our workplaces, our communities, and even the halls of power."

“In the face of unprecedented attacks against the trans community, Speaker Pelosi is proud to display the trans flag to send a strong message to transgender Americans that they are seen, heard, and affirmed and that House Democrats remain committed to ending discrimination and securing equality for all,” Taylor Griffin, spokesperson for Pelosi, said.

'Lone Wolf' Myth Covers Up Possible Mossad Role in New Zealand Terrorist Attack

Ever since the news broke on March 15 of two consecutive mass shootings at the Al Noor Mosque and Linwood Islamic Centre in Christchurch, New Zealand, corporate media has been determined to establish that suspect Brenton Tarrant acted alone in the terrorist attacks that took the lives of 50 innocent Muslim worshippers and wounded 50 others. While mainstream media has been predictably eager to parade the tragedy as another chapter in the wave of rising Islamophobia and right-wing extremism globally, they have put equal effort into conscientiously avoiding any evidence that contradicts the ‘lone wolf’ theory they decided on in the initial hours following the first mass shooting in New Zealand since 1997.

Whenever terrorism is committed by Arabs or Muslims, the fourth estate is usually anxious to speculate whether or not the suspect is connected to a larger radical syndicate. However, the same scrutiny is seldom applied to white nationalists like Tarrant. In fact, they are even hesitant to label it ‘terrorism’ at all, with everyone from The Daily Telegraph to the fanatical Zionist Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News settling for the choice words ‘mass shooting.’ While Tarrant denies being part of any group in his public declaration, he does hint that he is part of a broader extremist network:

“I am not a direct member of any organization or group, though I have donated to many nationalist groups and have interacted with many more. No group ordered my attack, I make the decision myself. Though I did contact the reborn Knights Templar for a blessing in support of the attack, which was given.”

As many have noted, the “Knights Templar” is the name of an anti-Muslim militant group that another infamous right-wing terrorist, Anders Behring Breivik, claimed to belong to. During the 2011 Norway attacks, Breivik targeted a government building in the city of Oslo and a youth camp of the ruling Labour party on the island of Utøya in a sequential car bombing and mass shooting that killed a total of 77 people. However, the media and prosecutors in Breivik’s trial were insistent that the group was fictional and the only possibility was that he was an ‘army of one’ while suffering from a psychiatric disorder, another trait that is apparently only applicable to white-skinned terrorists. There was no serious inquiry into whether he was part of a larger nexus, even though he had direct contact with groups like the English Defense League (EDL), the British far right Islamophobic group led by neo-fascist agitator Tommy Robinson. Breivik was portrayed as a fundamentalist Christian but was curiously a member of the Norwegian Order of Freemasons, an organization with a history of ties to the espionage world and susceptible to infiltration because of its inherent secrecy. The original Knights Templar, or “Templars,” were a Christian army founded in the 10th century who initially shielded pilgrims voyaging to the Holy Land and later fought against Muslims during the Crusades while the name is drawn from the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

Despite being a small nation, it has played an important role in pro-Palestinian activism and the prospect of Palestinian statehood just as it did in protesting South African Apartheid in the 1980s. In 2018, when New Zealand-born popular musician Lorde canceled a concert in Tel Aviv in solidarity with the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, she became the target of vicious Zionist smear campaign which saw right-wing Trumpist Rabbi Schmuley Boteach take out a full-page ad in The Washington Post denouncing her as a bigot while a $13,000 lawsuit was filed by the Mossad-linked Shurat HaDin lawfare NGO. Meanwhile, unlike Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Jacinda Ardern has been critical of the Trump administration’s move of the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, stating it undermines the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

New Zealand’s relatively even-handed foreign policy has likely rattled the Zionists and their far right Islamophobic counterparts in the West and it is possible that it is viewed as a threat to the interests of Israel and the U.S. The feasibly manufactured terrorist attack against New Zealand has greatly disrupted the small country, a state which in 2018 had its lowest homicide rate in 40 years and averages well below 100 murders per year, making this attack an extremely rare occurrence for the peaceful country. Prior to Breivik’s perpetration of the attacks in Norway, there had been significant political tensions between Oslo and Jerusalem in the months leading up to the violence due to Norway’s intent to recognize a Palestinian state and the circumstances in relations between New Zealand and Israel prior to Christchurch is eerily reminiscent.

Another Soros-Linked District Attorney Blocks Boston Police from Making Arrests on Shoplifting, Destruction of Property, Resisting Arrest, Drug Offenses… No Deportation of Illegals

Radical far left Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins released a memo this week.

The far left District Attorney announced new orders for police officers who are no longer allowed to arrest people for shoplifting, for breaking and entering, for destruction of property/vandalism, for resisting arrest, for disturbing the peace, and for drug offenses.

Rollins also ordered police to refuse access to ICE officials for the arrest any illegals in courthouses — no matter the crime.

Rollins is linked to the far left program originally funded by George Soros to support far left radicals in deep blue cities across the US.

The program has helped elect radical attorneys in Chicago, St. Louis, Sacramento and San Diego. On Tuesday Soros-linked Kim Foxx dropped all charges against hate hoaxer Jussie Smollett in Chicago without explanation.

Police are instructed to notify her office if anyone tries to deport an illegal alien.

Rachael Rollins also wants judges to lower charges against illegals so that they will not get deported.

She is attacking law enforcement and aiding criminal behavior!

The Boston Herald reported on this insane and dangerous Democrat.

“I don’t believe accountability has to equal incarceration. There are many ways we can hold people accountable without putting them in jail,” Rollins writes, according to the policy paper obtained by the Herald and later made public by the DA Monday.

As for the county’s “foreign-born population” when accused of crimes, Rollins’ memo states her office “will begin to factor into all charging and sentencing decisions the potential of immigration consequences.”

That includes taking into consideration any defense attorney’s “failure to provide accurate advice” about a suspect’s chances of being grabbed by federal immigration officers.

Rollins adds that if a DA’s office employee “observes Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers” or Department of Homeland Security agents “apprehending or questioning” someone called to court about “residence status,” they are to immediately alert her personally, her first assistant or general counsel.

Virginia police chief abruptly resigns, then claims she was forced out because she is a black woman

The first-ever black female police chief in Virginia resigned abruptly last week, with no details from her or the city about the reason. This week, the former chief said she was forced out of the department, and that race and gender were significant factors, according to WTKR-TV.

Who is she? Former Portsmouth, Virginia, Police Chief Tonya Chapman submitted her resignation on March 18, effective immediately. She was promoted to the position in February 2016 to lead a department in a city of 100,000 people, more than half of whom are black.

What does she say happened? Chapman submitted a four-page statement to media outlets, detailing the reasons she believed she was forced to resign. In fact, Chapman said, she was given a choice: Resign and get two months of severance pay, or be terminated.

"I can assure you I did not 'quit' on the citizens of Portsmouth," Chapman wrote. "My mother did not raise me to be a quitter. She raised me to be a strong woman. As such, my resignation was not tendered under my own volition. This was a forced resignation and our City Manager was the conduit."

Chapman claims the city manager told her she had lost the confidence of the department, but Chapman said officers she spoke to said they were never asked about the issue.

Why would she be forced out? Chapman said that when she took over, she noticed racial tensions as well as "bias and acts of systemic racism, discriminatory practices and abuse of authority." So, she attempted to change the culture in the department, but was met with some resistance.

"Some quite frankly did not like taking direction from an African American female," Chapman wrote.

Chapman also accused the Fraternal Order of Police of working for years to gain support for a "no confidence" vote against her, and that they tried to do the same thing to a previous black chief of the department. The FOP denies these accusations.

Chapman pointed to a decrease in crime and an increase in diversity at the department as evidence that she was unjustly forced out of the department.

What now? Chapman declined to provide more detail about examples of racism within the department in her statement, saying she would be willing to divulge more to a government entity. She is requesting that she get a positive recommendation letter from the department, and six months of severance pay instead of just two.

City officials are not commenting on Chapman's resignation, saying they do not speak publicly about personnel issues, according to NBC News and WKTR.

Google Is Conducting a Secret “Performance Review” of Its Censored China Search Project

Google executives are carrying out a secret internal assessment of work on a censored search engine for China, The Intercept has learned.

A small group of top managers at the internet giant are conducting a “performance review” of the controversial effort to build the search platform, known as Dragonfly, which was designed to blacklist information about human rights, democracy, religion, and peaceful protest.

Performance reviews at Google are undertaken annually to evaluate employees’ output and development. They are usually carried out in an open, peer review-style process: Workers grade each other’s projects and the results are then assessed by management, who can reward employees with promotion if they are deemed ready to progress at the company.

In the case of Dragonfly, however, the peer review aspect has been removed, subverting the normal procedure. In a move described as highly unusual by two Google sources, executives set up a separate group of closed “review committees,” comprised of senior managers who had all previously been briefed about the China search engine.

The existence of the Dragonfly review committees has not been disclosed to rank-and-file Google employees, except for the few who have been evaluated by the committees because they worked on China search. Fewer than a dozen top managers at the company are said to be looped in on the review, which has involved studying documents and technical work related to Dragonfly.

“Management has decided to commit to keeping this stuff secret,” said a source with knowledge of the review. They are “holding any Dragonfly-specific documents out of [employees’] review tools, so that promotion is decided only by a committee that is read in on Dragonfly.”
