I'll chime in. That federalist papers article was a good read, but here is what you crackers need to keep in mind:

 

Masonry in America began as an extension of the British military. Washington was in the British military and in British masonry. Then came the war for independence. At the time, the Grandmaster was British. Now, a lot of Washington's generals were masons but I think you can see how that made things a little awkward. Maybe now you can see why he only visited once or twice after all that.
