That's going a little too far. The truth is, American Masonry was never unified under British masonry and it's been independent as long as America has. Patriotic masons revere both America and it's Founding Father when using his image, nothing more.

 

Fun fact: The earliest recorded "4th degree" of Masonry was issued at Washington's own lodge in America. No records before that exist of it in Great Britain, where it was later formally adopted, and it's quite possible that night was amongst the "once or twice" that Washington visited.
