“Devin Nunes is someday going to be hailed as a great American hero,” Trump told Fox News's Sean Hannity in an interview Wednesday night.
“They tried to destroy that man because he spoke up for good and just and all of the things that you have to speak up for but most people don’t have the courage to do it,” he continued.
Nunes, the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, has remained a staunch Trump advocate.

Seagram heiress gave prosecutors the death stare during Nxivm trial
Seagram liquor heiress Clare Bronfman stared daggers at prosecutors when she appeared in Brooklyn federal court over her role in sex-slave cult Nxivm Tuesday — seething so much that her own lawyer had to tell her to chill out.
“Stop looking,” attorney Mark Geragos instructed Bronfman as two female prosecutors strolled in.
The wealthy scion typically appears expressionless in court but was unusually lively Tuesday — until the government lawyers walked in and she suddenly tensed up. It wasn’t clear why she was so perturbed.
Bronfman — who came to court in a gray sweater, navy blue pants and an Apple watch around her left wrist — was there for a “Curcio hearing” on any possible conflicts of interest with her lawyers.
She has been using her fortune to bankroll lawyers for Nxivm leader Keith Raniere, his sidekick “Smallville” actress Allison Mack, and two other members facing charges including sex trafficking, identity fraud and money laundering.
But Bronfman — a longtime Nxivm adherent who is herself facing charges including conspiracy to commit identity theft and racketeering conspiracy — confirmed that once the money set aside in a trust for their legal bills runs out, her co-defendants will have to pay their own way.
She didn’t say how much was left in the trust, but Judge Nicholas Garaufis revealed at a January hearing that only 25 percent of the original amount was still there.
Garaufis also grilled Bronfman on potential conflicts based on the fact that Geragos’ daughter, Teny Geragos, is representing Raniere, but she insisted she wanted to stick with him.
Bronfman added that she found her lawyer online.
“Like online dating?” Garaufis quipped, cracking up the courtroom.
Tuesday’s hearing was the last of seven Curcio hearings for all of the defendants in the Nxivm case, and the judge ended the day by patting himself on the back for making it through.
“That’s a record for one case,” he said.
Raniere is accused of heading a secret master-slave group within Nxivm — with Mack as his right-hand woman — where female members were branded with his initials, kept on starvation diets and and forced to have sex with him.
Bronfman, Raniere, Mack and their fellow co-defendants are due back in court on April 4.

African Refugees Hijack Oil Tanker, Set Course For Italy (Video)
“These are not migrants in need, these are pirates,” is what Italian Interior Minister Mr Matteo Salvini said when he was informed that 108 African refugees had taken over control of the Elhiblu 1 oil tanker and were on route to his country.
Earlier this week, the crew of the oil tanker saved a small boat with refugees off the coast of Libya. Once safely and well on board, the captain informed them that the ship was on it’s way to Tripoli, the Libyan capital and that it would drop them off there.
The refugees then captured the crew and took command of the tanker.
The ship is now on its way to Malta. According to Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, a strong opponent of illegal immigration, the hijackers have no chance of getting into his country. “They will only see Italy through binoculars,” he responded. “This is a clear case of organized crime. Our ports remain closed. “
A spokeswoman for the Maltese army confirms that the ship was hijacked and says that the course of the Elhiblu 1 is being followed. The ship will not be allowed to moor in Malta either.
