FBI reviewing Chicago prosecutors' dropping of Jussie Smollett case

March 28 (UPI) – The FBI is reviewing the process that led Chicago prosecutors to drop all charges against actor Jussie Smollett.

Smollett, 36, was accused of staging a phony hate crime against himself and making a false police report in January. Detectives working the case said he paid two brothers to attack him so he could capitalize on sympathy and further his acting career. In a surprise move Tuesday, prosecutors dismissed all 16 felony disorderly conduct charges in exchange for community service and a forfeiture of his $10,000 bond.

President Donald Trump said Thursday the FBI is looking into the case and a law enforcement source told ABC News the same.

"FBI & DOJ to review the outrageous Jussie Smollett case in Chicago. It is an embarrassment to our Nation!" Trump tweeted.

The Bolivian “Sergio Moro” Aspires to the Presidency

Oscar Ortiz, the opposition Senator who has overseen investigations into misuse of state funds, has announced he will challenge Evo Morales for the presidency.

In Bolivia, with a judicial system controlled by the Evo Morales regime, it would have been impossible for large corruption cases to be investigated independently, as occurred in Brazil with the famous prosecutor Sergio Moro.

The man who took responsibility for investigating such cases was the opposition Senator Oscar Ortiz, using the powers of parliamentary oversight, and calling the implicated officials to appear and testify before the chamber.

In these investigations, the case of the Peasant Indigenous Fund (Fondioc) stood out; a case in which millions of dollars were diverted to the personal accounts of trade union leaders of Morales’ ruling Movement Towards Socialism political party, money that in theory should have been earmarked for the development of rural communities.

Will the Iranian regime commit suicide for fear of death?

March 28, 2019 - Amid internal and external crises and the explosive state of the Iranian population, the gloomy prospects of the economy has caused panic among Iranian regime officials more than anything else.

Ali Rabiei, a former Iranian intelligence officer and Hassan Rouhani’s minister of labor until 2018, revealed his horror by saying: “The Persian year ends while very few people expected such an end at its beginning. Fast developments in international relations and global rules, economic uncertainty, and a change in people’s perceptions and values.”

“We started last year with [U.S. President Donald] Trump’s threats and his unilateral sanctions. A lack of readiness for an internal and effective counteraction and some wrong decision made us end the year in a not very well situation,” he added.

Rabiei acknowledged the ruling mullahs’ economic defeat and said: “Some people still don’t believe in the fact of globalization and an increasing and irreversible mutual economic dependency of the world and interpret economic and societal issues with a view limited to internal political competition.”

“Policies and decisions also showed that we lack a structural readiness and sufficient knowledge and experience for crisis situations,” he added.

He then warned Iranian officials about a looming threat of popular uprisings and said: “I believe that if we continue the new Persian year as before, there won’t be a bright prospect in front of us and I very much imagine the possibility of societal movements and turning of conceptual upheavals into the physical realm.

Here's a breakdown of how much US banks are spending on technology

Big banks love to boast about their focus on innovation and installing cutting-edge technology. But how much is Wall Street really spending on IT?

A recent report by UBS analyzing US banks technology budgets offered a breakdown of the investments large cap banks are putting towards their tech. The Swiss bank used a combination of conference transcripts, FactSet data and the banks own internal information to compile the chart.

It should come as no surprise that the biggest players in the space — JPMorgan, Bank of America, Citigroup and Wells Fargo — maintain the largest budgets.

Forms of Identification Required to Access USPTO Buildings

The USPTO instituted new access control procedures that may affect visitors to the USPTO campus effective Monday, August 4. These changes come as part of the federal government's enforcement of the REAL ID Act, which enacts one of the key recommendations of the 9/11 Commission.

The REAL ID Act establishes minimum security standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards and prohibits federal agencies from accepting those documents for official purposes unless the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) determines that the state meets the minimum standards.

As of Monday, April 21, the following states/territories do not meet the REAL ID standards:
