Twitter May Flag President Trump’s Tweets That Violate ‘Rules’

A Twitter executive said Wednesday that the social media company may begin to flag ‘offensive’ tweets from politicians, including President Trump, when they violate the ‘terms of service.’

Vijaya Gadde, Twitter’s head of legal, policy, and trust and safety, said that the reason why the company may begin labeling tweets from politicians ‘offensive’ is to explain why the tweet will remain posted, reported The Hill.

“One of the things we’re working really closely on with our product and engineering folks is, ‘How can we label that?’” Gadde said during the Washington Post event. “How can we put some context around it so people are aware that that content is actually a violation of our rules and it is serving a particular purpose in remaining on the platform?”

“When we leave that content on the platform there’s no context around that and it just lives on Twitter and people can see it and they just assume that is the type of content or behavior that’s allowed by our rules,” Gadde said.

Vijaya Gadde was responding to a question about whether President Trump is allowed to tweet whatever he wants.

Twitter has stated that tweets from politicians and members of government are held to a different standard in what they call their ‘newsworthy clause.’

Tweets from politicians that violate the terms of service are not removed because of the newsworthiness, however, Twitter is now looking to ‘label’ and publicly scold Trump if he dares say anything that the Marxists at Twitter don’t like.

Of course these ‘rules’ only apply to conservatives — leftists can tweet whatever they want without fear of reprisal.

Meanwhile, the worthless Republicans in Congress sit back and do nothing while tech giants impose their tyranny onto Americans.

Running country like a business: Trump calls Venezuela ‘company,’ but is it a Freudian slip?

Donald Trump seems to be taking the “running the country as a business” shtick pretty seriously. Why else would he refer to Venezuela, a country his administration targeted for its latest regime change op, as a “company”?

The slip of tongue, which some would call Freudian, came on Wednesday, as the US leader was meeting the wife of self-declared ‘interim president’ Juan Guaido. “Venezuela was one of the richest companies, certainly, and now it’s one of the poorest comp… countries or the world,” the host declared.

When described in corporate terms, Washington’s Venezuela policy makes a lot of sense, one could argue. Think of it as a hostile takeover, aimed at creating a subsidiary out of a firm in financial trouble, which also happens to own potentially very profitable oil assets.

America Inc. has spent years aggressively undermining Venezuela by scaring other companies out of doing business with it. Of course, it didn’t stop purchases of Venezuelan products needed by the US. But lately Washington declared it will no longer pay for the oil supplies, because the management in Caracas is bad and cannot be trusted to handle the profits. But don’t worry; it’s nothing a few executive changes can’t fix.

Facebook bans all praise of “white nationalism” and “white separatism”

Facebook has announced that it will ban content relating to ‘white nationalism’ and ‘white separatism’ from its platform. The nature of the content that will be banned raises some free speech concerns, RT.com writes.

Facebook’s hate speech policies already forbid any content praising or promoting “white supremacy.” The company has, until now, drawn a distinction between this content and “white nationalism” and “white separatism,” much to the ire of civil rights activists, who argue that the terms are interchangeable.

“Going forward,” the company announced in a blog post on Wednesday, “while people will still be able to demonstrate pride in their ethnic heritage, we will not tolerate praise or support for white nationalism and separatism.”

White nationalism and white separatism are hazy concepts. Facebook initially considered them in the same category of Basque separatism in Spain, the Zionist movement, or Malcolm X-style black separatism. However, the latest decision seems to place explicitly white movements into a category of their own.As of next week, users attempting to post such content will be redirected to Life After Hate, a nonprofit staffed by former extremists that seek to turn young people away from white supremacy. The new policy will apply to both Facebook and Instagram.

Enforcing the ban will likely prove controversial, especially in the United States where Facebook has been accused of a pervasive anti-conservative bias. Phrases like “I am a proud white nationalist” and “Immigration is tearing this country apart; white separatism is the only answer” will now be banned, the company told Motherboard. Less explicit and “coded”references will be removed on a case-by-case basis, an opaque policy that will surely draw accusations of misuse.

Behind the scenes, most of the content sifting will be done using artificial intelligence and machine learning, Facebook said on Wednesday.

Facebook’s clampdown on the extreme right comes less than two weeks after gunman Brenton Tarrant murdered 50 worshippers at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. Tarrant livestreamed his rampage on Facebook, and the social media giant was criticized for failing to take down reposts of the video quick enough in the days afterward.

Tarrant’s murder spree, inspired by a blend of white supremacist and fascist ideologies, prompted New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Arden to issue a “global call” to fight the “ideology” of racism, particularly online.

Salvini calls for castration “for the molesting worms who raped a tourist in Catania”

Matteo Salvini, Italy’s hardline interior minister, has called for three young men who allegedly gang-raped an American teenager in Sicily to be chemically castrated if convicted.

“No leniency for the molesting worms who raped a tourist in Catania”, Salvini tweeted. “Guaranteed jail time and chemical castration!”

The case concerns three Sicilian men who are accused of gang-raping an 18-year-old American woman in the city of Catania earlier this month.

The suspects, reported to be aged between 19 and 20, were arrested last week having been identified from videos filmed throughout the evening on the group’s phones.

According to the alleged victim, who had been working as an au pair for a local family for three months, she met the men in a bar on the evening of March 15th and, on the pretext of going to another bar together, they forced her into a car and drove to a remote area where they took turns to assault her.

Phone records published in the Italian press show that the woman repeatedly attempted to call the emergency number 112 and even 911, the US equivalent, during the almost two hours she says she was in the car, but the men cut off her calls.

The suspects allegedly filmed the abuse and contacted the woman on social media the following day to ask if she wanted to go out again.

She reported the attack to the Italian police later that day and has since returned to the United States.

Patzelt, campaign manager of the CDU in Saxony, political science professor at Technische Universitat Dresden, told Magyar Hírlap, adding that it’s very important for non-leftist parties to stay together, despite the pressure of the left-wing media and parties.

Patzelt said that Germany’s CDU is under fire by the media, but despite the critical remarks they make about Fidesz in public, the majority in the party wants to have good relations with the Hungarian government.

According to Patzelt, the CDU “has its date with reality”, the alliance has realised that the time when right-wing voters had no other choice but the Union-parties is over. The federal elections in 2017 showed that they have to count with the AfD and now the CDU/CSU wants to regain the trust of the voters who left them for the AfD.

He added that it seems CDU’s new president, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer is not simply a copy of Angela Merkel and there are several political disagreements between them.

“I wouldn’t bet on it,” the professor said when asked whether Merkel will complete her term, “because the SPD is likely to break the coaliton by the end of this year.”

Netanyahu calls for corruption investigation into Gantz after police deal exposed

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for a corruption investigation to be opened into his main political rival, head of the Blue and White (Kahol Lavan) alliance Benny Gantz, after a 50 million shekel ($13.7 million) business deal between the latter’s company and the Israel Police came to light.

Israel’s State Comptroller, Joseph Shapira, yesterday revealed that the Israel Police awarded a project worth 50 million shekels to Fifth Dimension, a cyber-security firm at which Gantz was chairman of the board at the time.

According to Haaretz, Shapira found that “the job was awarded to Fifth Dimension without [the Israel Police] inviting bids from other suppliers,” a move which violates regulations requiring that the police put out a public tender for its contracts.

Though Shapira’s report did not mention Fifth Dimension or Gantz by name, referring only to “Company A”, the Jerusalem Post explains that “the timing and developments described regarding ‘Company A’ in the report match up with Fifth Dimension’s business dealings with the police”. The report detailed how “‘Company A’ was given an unfair advantage [by being] present during internal police meetings about whom to choose for the supplier role that Company A was competing for”.

It added: “The police even granted ‘Company A’ use of proprietary police technology at a discount to help it develop its solution, which the police wanted it to produce.”

Fifth Dimension is also believed to have provided false information about its capacity to fulfill the contract requested, claiming it had other security-related customers and products ready for use when in fact, Haaretz explains, this was not the case.

The revelations could have far-reaching repercussions for Israel’s upcoming general election on 9 April, in which Gantz and Netanyahu are currently polling neck-and-neck. Netanyahu was quick to capitalise on the State Comptroller’s report, accusing Gantz of corruption and writing on Twitter: “Investigate Benny Gantz now.”

U.S. approved secret nuclear power work for Saudi Arabia

U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry has approved six secret authorizations by companies to sell nuclear power technology and assistance to Saudi Arabia, according to a copy of a document seen by Reuters on Wednesday.

The Trump administration has quietly pursued a wider deal on sharing U.S. nuclear power technology with Saudi Arabia, which aims to build at least two nuclear power plants. Several countries including the United States, South Korea and Russia are in competition for that deal, and the winners are expected to be announced later this year by Saudi Arabia.

Perry’s approvals, known as Part 810 authorizations, allow companies to do preliminary work on nuclear power ahead of any deal but not ship equipment that would go into a plant, a source with knowledge of the agreements said on condition of anonymity. The approvals were first reported by the Daily Beast.

The Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) said in the document that the companies had requested that the Trump administration keep the approvals secret.

Christian school leaves athletic conference over transgender rules allowing boys to compete as girls

A Christian school in Maryland has left the Potomac Valley Athletic Conference over the organization's rules that allow transgender athletes to compete as the gender to which they identify.

Grace Brethren Christian School, a pre-kindergarten to 12th-grade school in Prince George's County, said that the league's policy didn't align with the school's Biblical principles, The Washington Post reported.

"We are a Christian school and hold to the biblical teaching from Genesis 1:27 and other related passages which states, 'So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created them, male and female He created them,'" GBCS school director George Hornickel told the Washington Post in a statement. "This is how it has been throughout the history of the world, and we believe there are only two sexes: male and female."

In February, PVAC passed its new policy which reads,"Every student-athlete should have the opportunity to participate in PVAC activities in a manner that is consistent with their gender identity."

GBCS had already planned to leave the conference in spring because of travel demands from its school in Southern Prince George's County to other campuses in the Washington metropolitan area but it sped up the process over the transgender issue, according to International Dateline, a student-run newspaper Washington International Christian School.

Allowing boys to compete as girls on a sports team is a "form of cheating," Hornickel told the Post.

It "gives them an advantage over girls teams who only play female athletes," he added.

Last fall, PVAC began allowing boys who identify as female to play on girls' teams without any discussion or a vote as required by league rules, Hornickel claimed.

"When guys identifying as transgender girls begin making up the rosters of female teams, girls who otherwise could have started are now coming off the bench, and girls who were the reserves may not make the teams," Hornickel explained.
