Among a host of other restrictions - the government have just proposed that the New Zealand gun license be cut from ten years to five.

Experts have always maintained that there is no benefit to the ten year renewal system for firearm licences.

Police have admitted that this achieves nothing.

Nobody turns mad, bad or sad in ten yearly cycles. It is a complete waste of time and financial resources.

Problem people simply come to the attention of the Police. Action is taken. Job done.

But we wanted the hard numbers and so asked Police:

Is there any evidence to suggest a lower rate of firearm offending by holders of a NZ firearms licence since the lifetime licence was scrapped?

In the five years before the change 359 offenders committed 500 offences.

In the five years after the change 350 offenders committed 503 offences.

So after the millions spent and the time wasted – three more offences occurred OVER FIVE YEARS.

In other words – almost identical results.

No benefit to the new renewal system.

Shooters had hoped that the government would set aside emotion and base our firearm regulations on facts and reality. We hoped that they would save millions and return to the lifetime license.

Investing those resources into actual police work.

But no.

Instead they let the extremist Police Union dictate our laws.

A five year license serves ONE purpose – to harass shooters out of our sport.

Oh – how many times did the government mention punishing criminals in this new batch of controls?

Not once.

Even as horror stories fill the news. A man beats a woman. Terrorises her. Kicking down doors in her home. Chases her down in a car as she flees. He is then found with a stolen, highly restricted pistol and gets…home detention.

But the only increased penalties are for us. The lawful shooter.

It is interesting to note that when we asked Police if there had been any benefit to the ten year system – they had no idea. Nobody had ever checked.

They never do. They just add mindless new ‘controls’. Regardless of cost.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

Ask your MP if they want to BE safer or FEEL safer. Show them this number above.

Share this email with a local reporter. TV – radio – print. It doesn’t matter. Perhaps they will start to ask the questions that the nation needs asking.

Please do this right now.

Parliament must reject this stupidity.

Hello folks,

Well…. Tomorrow is D Day.

The first of the public hand in events.

There are still so many unanswered questions.

This is exacerbated by the Police buy back price list being far from complete and offering woefully inadequate prices for many of the guns listed.

Media have covered these concerns and are expecting a very low shooter turnout for the first event.

To make matters worse, talkback hosts tonight are inviting the public to go and watch the spectacle. Unbelievable.

Media have been told to wait outside on the day. With the gangs taking down our number plates to get our addresses.

Police have said publicly that they will be waiting three months to see what happens and then to see if they need to do anything differently.

Our advice is to join them. Wait.

The Prime Minister has also said that she is holding off on phase two of the new laws attacking our sport. To see how they are received.

Our LAWFUL refusal to capitulate here could make the government listen to our concerns about the new laws. The laws that Jacinda tells us the Police are writing for her.
