Mark Steyen has some really good insight on Trump's rhetorical style. My 2 cents is that Trump projects real-world fix-it capability, and the rest have sing-song trance appeal.

Schiff has a 5th percentile neck to head ratio. it looks weird, but is okay. Trump is mocking Schiff's physical appearance, nothing more. It's a sophomoric taunt, like Rubio's "small hands" remark. Competing armies always mock opponents on irrelevant attributes. it's a human thing. part humor, part deadly earnest.
I think you are correct. The press is losing its ability to trigger the public, and Trump is a POSITIVE UNIFYING leader. Not to say Trump's style isn't off putting to many, but his sometimes brutal remarks are tough love.
