I've been working on a "side" project for my husband's boss for the last few months (basically scanning and indexing a warehouse full of old oil and gas abstracts). Long story short, a guy they work with has secretly been using heroin for 15 years. They have been working with him for 6 years and did not know. This is an office full of work-a-holics who typically spend all of their time at the office. My husband generally works all hours of the night on a regular basis so he has spent a lot of time with this guy. Boss finds out from guys girlfriend he is using heroin. Boss sends guy to rehab for 4 months. Guy comes back, is fine for a few weeks and boss finds out he is using again. Boss sends guy to work at my office/warehouse as "probation". Only people at my office everyday are myself, guy , and my 20 yr old nephew. Guy is clean for a week then starts using again. I've never seen anything like this. In a weeks time he went from young, attractive, smart, driven, to junkie shooting up heroin in the bathroom. So very sad. 31 yrs old with any future he chooses in front of him. No wife, no kids. Saddest part is that I believe he really does want to quit. He told me all about the times he moved todiffferet states to escape his addiction and how no matter where he went it found him. Boss ended up having to let him go. I pray this is stopped very soon, as this guy was 17 years old, captain of the soccer team, president of French club, all while hiding a heroin addiction. My son goes to the same high school as he did. I pray tis ends soon.
