All treaties are pragmatic as opposed to principled. Which is to say, they benefit the signatories at that moment in time. That doesn't make them either moral or immoral - just beneficial to the signatories. And this may, and will, change over time.
The issue of "righteousness" or" morality" belongs to a different realm - a spiritual realm (rightyeousness is abstract, not concrete) which is what the Pharisees were unable to understand. Jesus said to "render unto Caesar" which is to say, give the governing power the tribute it demands, without moral judgement, and the Pharisees couldn't cope with this. Jesus went on to explain that His kingdom is NOT of this world - it is a spiritual kingdom that reigns in and via the hearts of individuals who worship the Creator, the author of everything, including morality and passing human kingdoms, etc. The kingdom Jesus spoke of surpasses all worldly kingdoms because it is a spiritual kingdom that supercedes any worldly kingdom.
