Edward Snowden and Bradley Manning appear to be in a separate category since they were working in intelligence for the government and stole the classified documents themselves.

They could have been spies that manipulated the purported whistleblower purpose and intent of Wikileaks which is to disclose wrongdoing, and instead used this as cover to inflict harm to the country.

There is the possibility that Wikileaks itself was just a ruse, a way to channel stolen intelligence information to the public, and Wikileaks was also a bad actor with evil intent. It would be a tremendous responsibility and burden to understand the impact of the information that was released. Therein lies the problem with Wikileaks I suppose.

But that hypothesis doesn't explain the Clinton/Podesta email leaks and the timing of their release. Those factors indicate the leaks were intended to impact an election.

But again, what would the world be like today if that particular leak didn't happen?
