Trump Administration Threatens Sanctions Against Russia for Meddling in Venezuela
President Donald Trump's special envoy to Venezuela warned that the administration could impose financial sanctions against Russia if it continues to meddle in Venezuela.
Elliott Abrams said he has already delivered a list of options to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, including diplomatic pressure and economic sanctions, that can be employed against Russia if it continues to send military personnel to Caracas.
"I think it would be a mistake for the Russians to think they have a free hand here. They don't," Abrams said.
The Trump administration ratcheted up its warnings Friday against Russia and other countries who may be considering sending military personnel to Venezuela by calling the action a direct threat to peace and security in the region….
The Red Cross announced Friday that it would start distributing humanitarian aid in Venezuela in about 15 days. The Maduro government has already authorized the delivery, according to The New York Times.

"Everyone Is Unhappy": Turks Vote In Local Election Which Could Cost Erdogan Istanbul And Ankara
The moment of truth for Turkey's executive president and currency manipulator-in-chief has arrived.
Turks are voting on Sunday in local elections which President Tayyip Erdogan has described as a matter of survival for Turkey and which were marred by lethal violence that left two party members dead in the country’s southeast.
While Erdogan, who last June won a presidential election which further cemented his rule by gaining executive powers, has become the country’s most popular, yet also most divisive, modern leader, he could be dealt an electoral blow with polls indicating his ruling AK Party (AKP) may lose control of the capital Ankara, and even Istanbul, the country’s largest city according to Reuters.
And with the stagflating economy in a deep recession following a currency crisis last year which saw the lira lose more than 30% of its value, some voters appeared ready to punish Erdogan, who has ruled with an increasingly uncompromising stance.
“I was actually not going to vote today, but when I saw how much they (AKP) were flailing, I thought this might be time to land them a blow. Everyone is unhappy. Everyone is struggling,” said 47-year-old Hakan after voting in Ankara.

DEA collected data on purchases of money-counting machines in US: report
The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) secretly tracked data on purchases by Americans of money-counting machines before ending the program in 2013, The New York Times reported Sunday, citing findings from an inspector general report.
Beginning in 2008, the DEA began issuing subpoenas to vendors in an effort to learn who was purchasing money counters, according to the Times. The newspaper found an unredacted portion of the IG report referencing the specific devices.
The agency, which was attempting to find leads on people who could be drug traffickers, reportedly compiled tens of thousands of records with the names and addresses of individuals who bought the counters.
The Office of the Inspector General found the program "troubling" for its use of "statutory subpoena power in this expansive, non-targeted manner."
According to the Times, no courts oversaw the subpoenas and the subpoenas were not part of any specific probe.
The inspector general report notes that the DEA did not mention in official cases that the agency first learned of suspects' names from its practice of tracking the money-counter purchases, per the Times. That was done in an effort “to protect the program’s sources and methods; criminals would obtain money counters by other means if they knew that the D.E.A. collected this data," the report reads, according to the newspaper.
The report also notes complaints that the program was wasteful because there were a significant number of low-quality leads that resulted in the DEA questioning people who did not have "any connection to illicit activity.”
The DEA in 2013 submitted the data it collected to law enforcement agencies, but the FBI reportedly banned officials from accessing it after questioning whether the information was gathered lawfully.
According to the Times, the report says that FBI agents “explained that running all of these names, which had been collected without foundation, through a massive government database and producing comprehensive intelligence products on any ‘hits,’ which included detailed information on family members and pictures, ‘didn’t sit right.'"
The program was then reportedly shut down in September of that year.

'Censorship Is the Tool of a Coward’
Vice President Mike Pence spoke at Turning Point USA’s Midwest Regional Conference on Friday, where he told students and activists that “censorship is the tool of a coward” and that there is a “battle over the closing of the American mind” on college campuses today. Pence added that the Trump administration “will not stand idly by and allow public institutions to violate their students’ constitutional rights.”

Ukrainian presidential election: Comedian Vladimir Zelensky leads in exit polls
Comedian Vladimir Zelensky is leading in exit polls in the presidential election in Ukraine with over 30% of the vote, according to exit polls. The runner-up is incumbent president President Petro Poroshenko with 17.8 %.
Zelensky, a newcomer in politics, campaigned on an anti-corruption platform and the image of a character (the Ukrainian president) he played in a popular satirical TV show, ‘Servant of the People’. Critics say he is just a figurehead for tycoon Igor Kolomoisky, an allegation that both strongly deny.
The leader of the presidential race, Zelensky, has expressed his gratitude to those Ukrainians who voted “not just for the crack,” as he put it.
If neither of the candidates gets 50 percent plus one vote, a second round will be held on April 19 between the top two candidates. At least 45 percent of eligible voters cast their ballot in the election, but there’s no final data on the turnout available yet.

‘RIP Harambe’: Elon Musk posts unexpected rap track dedicated to dead gorilla
Elon Musk has built a varied, and highly lucrative, career out of some unexpected enterprises but his latest move must be his strangest yet: a Soundcloud rap track dedicated to the dead gorilla Harambe.
Harambe the gorilla became an internet sensation after the 17-year-old animal was killed by staff at Cincinnati Zoo in 2016 when it grabbed a small child that entered its enclosure.
