Tony Maddox, the caring fellow…

Elena Cosentino, who worked for CNN's London bureau as a producer and reporter for six years before being made redundant in March 2004, told the tribunal she felt "devastated" when she found out about the email, sent by the network's senior vice president, Tony Maddox.

Ms Cosentino, who is seeking £190,000 in compensation, was made redundant almost two years after her fiance was killed in a motorbike accident. CNN is contesting the case.

She has said the fatal accident in July 2002 left her suffering from clinical depression and she took several months off work, only returning full-time in January 2003.

A little over a year after Ms Cosentino's fiance was killed, Mr Maddox sent an email about her employment situation to CNN's executive producer, Rachel Brown, telling her: "You want her gone and she is gone".

"Before I unzip the body bag let me check something. With business traveller back giving us four feature shows in production in London should we consider whether now is the time to lose her?"
